Celebrating a great day of training by Our Peer Assistance Team, led by an incredible Wellness Unit.
In the face of challenging, stressful situations, having a strong support system is crucial—not just for resolving crises but for protecting the well-being of those involved. Our Peer Assistance Team exemplified this principle during 2,678 team call-outs last year.
In 2012, Deputy Chief Rhonda Grizzell, a group of 6 dedicated professionals & I created this team to go above and beyond, providing critical emotional and psychological support to individuals affected by traumatic events. When our first responders face immense pressure or horrific trauma, this team steps in to ensure that no one navigates the aftermath of a critical incident alone.
Through debriefings, peer support, and continuous outreach, their work has become an invaluable part of our organization. The ripple effect of their care is felt not just in moments of crisis but in the long-term resilience of the people they serve.
During today's training Lisa Callander reminded us of the importance of #confidentiality, #scope of practice & #self-care. We fell silent as we listened to Mirian Perez & her valuable story of resilience.
To our Peer Assistance Team: Thank you for your compassion, dedication, and relentless commitment to helping others. You’re a testament to the power of humanity in action.
