  • First Forty Feet Wins Best Implementation Project Award at 2024 APA WA Annual Conference First Forty Feet proudly received the Best Implementation Project Award for Vancouver’s first-ever Bike Garden at The Heights, honored at the 2024 APA WA Annual Conference. This innovative project created a miniature streetscape where community members of all ages could engage in a fun, interactive environment free from cars. Designed to teach cycling and pedestrian safety, the Bike Garden provided a hands-on, practical way for participants—especially kids—to build confidence, master road safety skills, and understand how traffic works. Held October 16-18 in Bellevue, the conference drew a record 630 attendees and centered on the theme "Renewing the Plans: Embracing Innovation & Resiliency." Highlights included a tribal welcome by Muckleshoot Indian Tribe Councilmember Donny Stevenson and keynote speeches by filmmaker John Paget and travel expert Rick Steves, who emphasized storytelling and the importance of people-friendly spaces. First Forty Feet extends its gratitude to Emil King, AICP, the conference organizers, sponsors, and attendees for an inspiring and successful event. The firm looks forward to next year’s conference in Tacoma. #FirstFortyFeet #UrbanDesign #Placemaking #ActiveTransportation #BikeGarden #CommunityEngagement #Innovation #SafetyEducation #AwardWinning #SustainableDesign #VancouverWA #APA2024 #PublicSpaces #MobilitySolutions #DesignForAll #FutureOfCities #TransportationPlanning
