Mental Health Care
Building a new mental healthcare system that everyone can access.
About us
Headway is building a new mental healthcare system that everyone can access making it easy for therapists to accept insurance and scale their practice. 1 in 4 people in the US have a treatable mental health condition, but the vast majority do not get the care they need. The primary reason is cost: the majority of therapists do not accept insurance, meaning paying for therapy is prohibitively expensive for prospective patients. This is where we got our start – Headway has built the first software-enabled network of therapists who accept health insurance, making it easy for therapists to grow their practices, and possible for patients to find quality care they can afford. Headway was founded in 2019 and are now powering 600,000+ appointments per month. To scale its vision, Headway has raised over $325 million in funding from a16z (Andreessen Horowitz), Thrive, Accel, and GV (formerly Google Ventures), Spark Capital, Forerunner Ventures and Health Care Service Corporation. Join us, and make an impact We believe a team's strength is in its people, and we cannot achieve this mission without a team that reflects the diversity of this problem - across race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, national origin, religion, family status, disability, military status, and experience. Headway employees work remotely across the US, with the option to work from our NYC (HQ) or SF offices. Headway is committed to the full inclusion of all qualified individuals. As part of this commitment, Headway will ensure that persons with disabilities are provided with reasonable accommodations. If reasonable accommodation is needed to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and/or to receive other benefits and privileges of employment, please contact talent@findheadway.com.

Our Founder & CEO Andrew Adams was recently on the 'Everyday Better' podcast. During their thoughtful conversation, Andrew and Leah Smart discuss how to take the first step toward therapy, how to be a better leader, and the journey of building Headway. Together, they explore the barriers many people face when seeking care — and how Headway is breaking down those barriers by building a platform that connects patients with therapists who accept insurance. Check it out below, or wherever you listen to podcasts.
Was a pleasure to speak to Leah Smart for the Everyday Better podcast from LinkedIn News. We talked about building Headway, lessons in leadership, and the future of mental health care. Always grateful for the opportunity to share Headway's story. Apple: https://lnkd.in/eY6-ZZMk Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eBXq5e5z

Insurance acceptance isn’t just a consideration — it’s a dealbreaker. 56% of patients said their top priority is finding a provider who takes their insurance. More importantly, losing insurance or facing rising costs is a leading reason patients stop care. Learn more in our report, 'The patient perspective': https://bit.ly/49u5xqR

Thank you to Behavioral Health Business for covering the findings of our report on patient trends in mental health care. Nearly half (47%) of patients want mental health referrals from primary care providers or insurance plans — but only a small fraction receive them. This gap underscores the importance of improved collaboration between mental health providers, PCPs and insurers to ensure patients can access the care they need. With insights drawn from our more than 1 million patients served, we’re committed to advancing solutions that bridge these gaps and build a better mental health system. Finding the right mental health provider is harder than it should be. Our research reveals a gap between how patients want to find providers (referrals and insurance) and how they actually find them. While accepting insurance might be a new process for some providers, our findings are clear: People want to find mental health care within their insurance network — and providers can meet them there. Headway has a patient-oriented mission, but we will achieve it with a provider-centric solution. Watch our Founder & CEO Andrew Adams speak at HLTH as he describes Headway's journey to become a system solution to solve a systemic problem. We're building a new mental healthcare system by building for the provider — so that they can accept insurance, and in turn, help patients find the care they need.

Therapists spend a lot of time investing in other people. While the providers on Headway's platform are focused on delivering care to their patients, we're focused on providing technology, support and resources for providers. Last month, hundreds of Headway employees gathered in California for three days of learning, deepening connections, and aligning around our mission to support patients and providers. As our team grows – along with our impact – it's crucial to come together to reflect on what we've achieved, and collaborate on how we can make an even bigger difference as we build a new mental healthcare system that everyone can access. We're more fired up than ever for what we'll achieve in the coming year! #Headway #TeamHeadway

We're honored to partner with forward-looking plans like Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota to increase access to mental health care. Headway's diverse network of providers is being built to meet the needs of Minnesota membership — including providers covering rural and underserved communities, multiple languages, child and adolescent specialists, and prescribers. With BCBS Minnesota, Headway is getting patients to care within 5 days, on average. https://lnkd.in/esy9BxBz
