Massachusetts has finalized the details for participating in their upcoming 60-day amnesty program. The program will run from November 1st through December 30, 2024 and will waive most penalties for eligible taxpayers who file outstanding returns and pay tax and interest owed for past periods by December 30, 2024.   The Department of Revenue has developed a list of eligible and ineligible tax types, but the most common eligible tax types include:   ·      Corporate excise ·      Sales and use ·      Personal income ·      Estate ·      Meals ·      Withholding ·      Partnership income Most taxpayers will be eligible for a three-year limited look-back period which would eliminate any obligations prior to January 1, 2022. The process requires the submission of an amnesty application through MassTaxConnect.   We understand that the timing is not utopia with most tax professionals burdened by 2023 state income tax compliance, so if your resources are scarce FandlGagnon, LLC can help. One often overlooked area is the reporting of use tax. If that is an area of concern, FandlGagnon, LLC has developed a technology tool that can quickly identify past use tax liabilities.   If we can be of any assistance, please contact Paul Naehle at pnaehle@fandlgagnon.com or Kim Allen at kallen@fandlgagnon.com.

  • Dear Clients and Friends:   We are very proud to announce that Jack Gagnon, son of co-founder Bill Gagnon, has joined FandlGagnon. Jack has already accomplished some great things in his young career, and I look forward to what he can bring to the Firm. Jack has over a decade of international income tax experience and spent the last six years working out of the Manhattan office of Ernst & Young in their International Tax Quantitative Services practice.  He has been involved in the quarterly and year-end provision calculations of many of his clients and as a member of audit teams in reviewing client-prepared estimates under ASC 740 with deep technical expertise in the international computations (Transition Tax, GILTI, FDII, BEAT, etc.) and enhanced informational reporting requirements that came out of the TCJA of 2017.  He has been primarily focused on the advanced manufacturing, technology, financial services, and consumer products industries and his clients have included some of the largest companies in the world. Jack has led multiple implementation projects of Corptax International and ONESOURCE Income Tax for Fortune 500 companies and was a Corptax champion for the EY East practice.  He also led several engagements where he assisted clients who utilize one system for provision and another for compliance, leveraging his extensive experience with Power Query, Power BI and Alteryx.  This included designing and implementing “data bridge” processes and technology to extract, cleanse and load data from ONESOURCE to Corptax and vice versa, resulting in significant time/cost reductions and more complete, accurate and auditable data transfer. Please keep Jack and FandlGagnon in mind if you have needs that you believe match his skillset. I look forward to hearing from you and to working with my son for many years (until I can retire)! Hope all is well with each of you.
