Founders in fintech are more ambitious than ever. The infrastructure & talent have never been better. Rajeev Behera at Every recently raised a $22.5 million Series A. When I first met him, I thought he was crazy. no way he had done what he'd said. Every offers - banking - payroll - accounting, finance & tax - expense management - treasury - free incorporation (recently launched) that's like building mercury, gusto, pilot, ramp, stripe atlas & more. all at once. As we spent time together, I realized that yes, this is in fact possible, given the quality of infrastructure and talent in the ecosystem. some people think fintech is over. everything new has been tried. I feel the opposite. Fintech is 1% built. We have barely scratched the surface. In 2025, I'm going to start sharing more of the stories of companies I've backed to show there is plenty of interesting work to be done in fintech. I hope these stories encourage the next generation of founders to be even more ambitious. So, here's Every's story: https://lnkd.in/gAbx9SbC

Being a founder isn’t a solo journey—it’s about surrounding yourself with the right people who believe in the vision as much as you do. It’s easy to get lost in the hustle of product builds, customer demands, and yes, the inevitable back-office headaches. But when you have a team that shares the same mission, those challenges feel more like stepping stones than roadblocks. The truth is, we don’t just solve problems for customers—we solve them for each other. And that’s the core of what it means to be a founder: building something with a team, creating solutions together, and focusing on what really matters—growth. That’s why we built Every. Not just to take care of the back-office stress, but to give founders and their teams the space to focus on the work that drives the company forward. When the foundation is strong, everything else falls into place.

“𝑆𝑎𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑎 𝑠𝑚𝑒𝑙𝑙” — every investor and customer can smell a sales pitch from a mile away. How do you sell without setting off this smell? We just hosted Rajeev Behera for a Fireside Chat. Rajeev is a YC alum and former co-founder and CEO of Reflektive, where he raised $100 million from a16z and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Currently, he is building Every, an all-in-one back-office assistant for lean teams. Here are some of the insights our Fall ‘24 founders received. “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐕𝐂 𝐢𝐬, ‘𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐕𝐂𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲?’” - VCs get FOMO. Is your company the hottest deal on the market right now? - If you aren’t closing your round in 30 days, don’t tell people that you’re actively raising. - Until you get the first person in, you lack leverage. “𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞” - VCs discount your traction and metrics by ~25%. - When you sell VCs on your company, you aren’t selling your product. You’re selling credibility in making them money. - What builds your credibility? 1) Your confidence, aura, charisma. 2) How well do you understand and know your ICP? 3)What is your operational experience, and what outcomes have you achieved? - For example, Adam Neumann raised billions of dollars. “𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲” - Deeply research and craft a highly specific cold outreach message. - Relationship first. Sales pitch second. - You lead with questions about them - be interested in them (How to Make Friends and Influence People). If customers or investors are interested they will be asking you questions about your startup. Thank you again to Rajeev for taking the time and sharing your experience with our Fall ‘24 cohort.

If you are a founder getting ready for a Series A round, the rules have changed since ZIRP. Now, VC's are proactively triggering fundraises themselves and getting in preemptively. Watch to see how you can put your company in the position to be approached by a VC for your Series A.

Hosted Rajeev Behera, Founder & CEO of Every for a Fireside chat. It was amazing to learn about his journey as Founder of Reflective (Acquired), fundraising, culture building, value of network. Key takeaways for founders: - Get rid of the Sales mode, create a FOMO - Never get too attached to a product - You can always make minor pivots for unstoppable growth Thank you Rajeev you were an amazing guest.
