  • Everbridge Situation Reports – United States Increasing Risk of Protracted Government Shutdown Beginning Saturday, December 21 After Trump Denounces Planned Spending Bill Download the full Sit Rep report: https://lnkd.in/epH5c4Xp Executive Summary On Wednesday, December 18, President-elect Donald Trump signaled his displeasure with a new continuing resolution (CR) that was expected to pass and continue funding the U.S. government for the next three months. Prior to Trump’s announcement, the bill was expected to pass the House of Representatives and be signed into law. Following Trump’s announcement, Republicans largely denounced the bill and are expected to reject it. In addition to regular government funding, the CR also had over 100 billion dollars in disaster relief, economic assistance for farmers, funding to help rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, and a raise for lawmakers. The new developments have significantly increased the risk of a government shutdown, beginning at 12:01 AM EST on Saturday, December 21 if a new CR is not passed and signed into law. Risk During a government shutdown, federal agencies are required to furlough all workers who are deemed nonessential. Essential workers are those considered critical for national security, economic activity, and other government operations. Each agency determines which workers are essential or non-essential and submits those plans to OMB. Essential workers and operations will continue during any shutdown; however, those workers will not receive pay. The shutdown will also include the closure of national parks and monuments. Organizations with government contracts may also experience disruptions to ongoing projects involving the federal government during any shutdown. ☑️ Organizations involved with government operations are advised to continue closely monitoring potential developments, which could change on an hourly basis as the shutdown deadline nears, and immediately contact their government liaisons to determine how their projects or operations may be impacted.

  • 📢 Everbridge U.S. Risk Alert – Severe Impacted Area: U.S. – California (Malibu) Summary The Franklin Fire, a fast moving wildfire, broke out last night north of Malibu, California, resulting in widespread evacuations and the ‘sheltering in place’ of Pepperdine University. The fire is now at least 2,200 acres. On Monday, December 9, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) Red Flag warning for Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Notably, the cities of Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Long Beach, remain outside the warned area and are not deemed to be at significant risk of fire activity. The warning is due to dangerous fire weather forecast throughout Southern California beginning on Monday and lasting through Wednesday, December 12, including low humidity, extremely dry vegetation, and potentially damaging winds caused by a seasonal Santa Ana wind event. Wind gusts of up to 80 miles per hour will be possible. The most significant fire risk will occur on Tuesday, with Elevated or Critical fire weather expected throughout much of Southern California and Extremely Critical fire weather in parts of Ventura and Los Angeles counties between Ventura and Glendale, including Santa Clarita. The wind event and dangerous fire have led to Southern California Edison (SCE) and San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) warning of the potential to initiate Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) through Thursday. The NWS and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security have guidelines to help individuals and businesses prepare for potential wildfire impacts, which can be viewed at the following links: https://lnkd.in/e5VxQhC5
