  • Now more than ever, Erie Region small businesses need our support. The snow storm affected so many local businesses when they had to close on Small Business Saturday and as the storm and snow emergency declaration continues. Small Business Saturday is typically the busiest day of the year for them. Many businesses are planning to move the event to this Saturday, December 7th. You are encouraged to support as many local businesses as possible throughout the holiday season, not just on one day. Go shopping, have a meal at a local restaurant, go see a show and stop for a drink at your favorite brewery or coffee shop. All these things will make a difference. Snow still have you trapped in? You have too many other things to do? That's ok. You can still support small businesses. Go to their websites and purchase items or gift cards. You can always use gift cards (even for yourself. We won't tell anyone). The Erie Downtown Partnership is holding their make-up Small Business Saturday market this weekend at the Boston Store, Art Museum, Ascend, and 1020 Collective. On December 13th they will host Dowtown d'lights and the Holiday Makers Market in the Boston Store. This provides you opportunity in one general area to support local businesses. Whether you are in Erie, Corry, Fairview, Girard, Harborcreek, Millcreek, North East or another area, Erie county needs your support. Show your holiday spirit! If you are a small business, feel free to tag yourself so followers are aware! Enjoy your adventures supporting small businesses! @eriedowntownpartnership @cityoferiegovernment @corryareachamberofcommerce @northeastchamberofcommerce @girard-lakecitychamberofcommerce @millcreektownship @harborcreektownship

  • To try to make your life a little easier, we are sharing an update regarding the Central Bayfront Parkway construction project. Please share with others to make them aware. The contractor is continuing its work to relocate telecommunication and electric service from above ground to beneath the parkway and State Street. This involves the placement of large concrete vaults in a deep excavation at the northeast quadrant of the State Street intersection. Following the construction of these vaults, the contractor will proceed with closing State Street from the Bayfront Parkway north to West Front Street Ext. in order to install underground utility conduits beneath State Street. These conduits will ultimately tie into conduits previously placed adjacent to West Front Street Ext., completing the loop. The work associated with crossing the closed portion of roadway with new underground utilities is expected to take approximately five weeks, weather permitting. Presently, the intersection is expected to close December 4, 2024. During the closure, drivers should turn at Sassafras Street Extension and Holland Street to access West Front Street Ext. on the waterfront side of the Bayfront and the businesses along State Street. A graphic explaining the detour is included.
