Transforming Learning, Transforming Lives
About us
Envision Education's mission is to transform the lives of students - especially those who will be the first in their family to attend college - by preparing them for success in college, career, and life. This mission is grounded in the urgency to create opportunities for first-generation college-going students, so that they have access to an education that will fundamentally change the trajectory of their lives. Envision’s Portfolio Defense model accomplishes this by giving students, particularly those who are historically underserved, the academic and social-emotional skills they need to first get into college and then persist until they earn a degree. Simply put, ours is an equity mission. Envision Education was co-founded by Daniel McLaughlin, a former Senior Research Associate at WestEd, and Bob Lenz, a nationally recognized school reform leader and Project-Based Learning expert. Envision began operations as a 501(c)(3) charter school management organization in June 2002. Today, Envision Education runs five small, high-performing urban public schools (two middle schools and three high schools) in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Envision Schools integrate a challenging curriculum that requires all students to complete the A-G Common Core coursework, ensuring that they are eligible and prepared to attend a four-year university. Our educators also create project-based assignments that challenge students to use the 21st Century Skills, of thinking critically, solving problems resourcefully, and collaborating productively, that are needed to thrive in college, in future careers, and in life. Building on the success of the schools, Envision created a consultancy division in 2010 called Envision Learning Partners (ELP), to transform the educational experience for students across the country. Using the Envision Schools model, ELP works with teachers and leaders throughout the United States to create vibrant schools and engage students deeply in their own learning.

There's Still Time to Invest in Students’ Futures! We have set an ambitious goal of raising $25,000 this year to fund college visits for our students. Our dedicated college counselors organize impactful campus experiences at UCs, CSUs, private colleges, and HBCUs across the country. While these visits are invaluable, the costs for travel, lodging, and meals can add up quickly. We hope you'll take a moment in this busy holiday season to make a contribution to our “Visualizing the Future” campaign. With over 90% of our graduates going on to college each year, these visits are a cornerstone of our college-going culture and a critical part of our students’ journeys toward higher education. Your contribution will make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. Thank you for your support! bit.ly/Donate_Envision

As the year comes to a close, Envision Education knows that you have an opportunity to support many organizations to help fulfill their mission. Our goal this year is to raise $25K for students to visit colleges and universities across the country. We work hard to create a college going culture even at their middle schools and having an opportunity to visit college campuses plays a huge part in that. Your donation will make a huge difference in our ability to offer more students college visits. bit.ly/Donate_Envision

#ImpactAcademyInsight: "We the People" Project Exhibition Impact Academy Middle Grades held an exhibition earlier this week that iterated on a learning experience that Shruti Patel has done with her 8th graders for a long time. This year's version was seasoned by collaboration with our friends at PBLWorks (including longtime Envisioner, Erin Brandvold) as part of a larger pilot project where Envision middle school teachers are weaving some units from PBLWorks into their courses. Making student work public by sharing it with authentic audiences is a long-running and important Envision Education tradition, grounded in pedagogical principle. Exhibitions motivate student craftsmanship, engage families, inject joy into learning, and provide memorable opportunities for students to demonstrate the competencies of our graduate profile.
