To meet growing peak demand, we need to add 160 GW of flexible capacity to the grid by 2030 — but what will that look like in practice? In this on-demand webinar, Paul Hines, our VP of Power Systems, takes a data-driven look at how multiple DER classes can work together within a VPP to solve grid challenges and unlock the benefits of a cross-DER strategy for utility teams. How does our new dynamic load shaping technology build on traditional demand response? Unlike traditional demand response — which requires utilities to manually set device-specific event parameters for peak periods — dynamic load shaping uses machine learning and optimization to dispatch granular groups of devices and achieve a desired load shape. This all happens while accounting for customer preferences and device characteristics. As shown in the graph below, our client National Grid used dynamic load shaping to dispatch both batteries and thermostats in the same event, delivering sustained load shed for four hours with minimal snapback. Our Women in Climate Tech employee resource group kicked off this week's all-hands meeting by hosting a volunteering event at Big Reuse! 🌎 Big Reuse fights climate change through community-based environmental and zero waste initiatives. Our crew helped process donations at their center in Brooklyn and pitched in on some tree care nearby. We're proud to support organizations like Big Reuse that are making a tangible impact in our community. Always such a pleasure to share the stage with Kerri Carnes from APS. Thanks to Stephen Lacey and the Latitude team for hosting a great conversation. If you haven't listened yet, please do!
A few years ago, Arizona Public Service - APS started working with EnergyHub to experiment with smart thermostats as a resource to manage peak demand. The initial resource was modest – a few megawatts, and then 20 megawatts. That program eventually turned into a 190-megawatt virtual power plant made up of smart thermostats, behavioral demand response, commercial and industrial demand response, and some batteries. This week, we’re featuring a conversation about the value of VPPs with APS’ Kerri Carnes and Seth Frader-Thompson, co-founder and president of EnergyHub. Listen on the Latitude site, or wherever you get your podcasts! 🎧 https://lnkd.in/gGc-UN47

Utilities need innovative solutions to manage increasing energy demand, aging grid infrastructure, renewable generation variability, and more. EnergyHub's dynamic load shaping technology offers a way to precisely shape load profiles using existing VPP resources. Our recent trials with Arizona Public Service - APS, Duke Energy Corporation, and National Grid demonstrated how dynamic load shaping can: - Reduce load shed decay & snapback - Extend load shedding duration - Optimally dispatch multiple DER types - Maximize the value of renewable generation Discover how it works in Canary Media Inc.'s article: https://lnkd.in/gSTeChwb #GridInnovation #DERMS #VPPs #RenewableEnergy
