🌐World Bank/IDA21 Replenishment: A Milestone for the Global Alliance Against Hunger In Korea, we recently concluded #IDA21 replenishment, which will provide a record of $100 billion in concessional financing to the 78 poorest and most vulnerable countries worldwide. This is a huge step in the fight against poverty and hunger, and a historic mark in the global development agenda. 🇧🇷Brazil is returning to the International Development Association (IDA), The World Bank Group’s window of concessional financing for the world's most vulnerable. Brazil has been a longstanding contributor to IDA for over 40 years, with its absence being only temporary under the previous administration. Brazil’s return signals its renewed and ambitious commitment to #multilateralism, the #BrettonWoods institutions and reforming global governance. With this return, Brazil pledges at its historical levels. Under the leadership of President #Lula and Minister #Haddad, while Brazil benefits from IBRD financial resources, the country is committed to supporting nations in #Africa, as well as the poorest countries in its own region, such as #Haiti. These nations are grappling with severe socio-economic challenges, exacerbated by the aftermath of the pandemic, inflationary shocks, global interest rate hikes, and widespread debt crises. The poorest countries and communities are also the most vulnerable to the devastating impacts of climate change, despite contributing the least to global emissions. For global prosperity to be truly inclusive, it must encompass the growth and well-being of low-, middle-, and high-income countries alike. 🌍 #IDA will play a pivotal role in advancing the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, launched during Brazil’s #G20 presidency. Countries interested in the Alliance's policies can use IDA financing to implement concrete solutions and make a tangible impact. The World Bank Group has set an ambitious goal to reach 500 million people until 2030 with social protection policies. Brazil’s partnership with #IDA and the #GlobalAlliance is crucial to achieving this target and ensuring that no one is left behind.
