A few days ago, while still at Brewhala after StartupBREW Fargo, I received news that my father-in-law had passed away. Even though we knew the end was near, hearing that phone call was still a shock. I will be in town for the next few days, as I have a wedding to drive for on Saturday, and I want to ensure all client pickups and drop-offs are arranged before I leave. During this time, I kindly ask for a bit of grace and understanding as our family navigates this loss. My intersectional identities as a proud Navajo Two Spirit and a BIPOC LGBTQIA2S+ individual have profoundly shaped both my personal journey and the development of Ellis Transit, LLC. Raised in a matriarchal Navajo culture, I grew up surrounded by strong women who led with confidence, instilling in me a sense of responsibility and pride. This foundation has driven my commitment to supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs, which led to my co-founding of the Indigenous Business Association in Fargo, ND. In the male-dominated transportation industry, my experiences and challenges fuel my determination to create an inclusive, safe, and culturally sensitive service, particularly for marginalized communities. Through Ellis Transit, I actively engage with BIPOC and tribal communities to address transportation needs, focusing on the safety and well-being of Indigenous women. My Two Spirit identity has further empowered me to foster positive change across multiple communities. I strive to lead by example, showing other BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ individuals that success is achievable despite obstacles, while also mentoring and supporting others in their entrepreneurial journeys.
