Happy New Year, Ellis County! Here is a special message from your County Judge: “My fellow Ellis County citizens: A new chapter begins only with the closing of the old. In 2024, we experienced triumphs, achieved many of our goals, and formed life-long memories. Many of us also experienced loss, fell short of what we had envisioned for the year, and lived through things that we would prefer to forget. Regardless of what kind of 2024 you had, may the good continue to inspire us, and may the bad continue to bring us wisdom and strength as we strive toward 2025. With the coming of the new year, we are blessed with the mercies of God. His mercies are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness! The future is always undetermined, but that means we have the freedom to shape it in the present. Thank you to each and every one of you who continue to make Ellis County great! Whether you call Ellis County your home, your place of business, or both, each and every one of you offers something wonderful to our community, and I believe I speak for all Ellis County officials when I say that we are both honored and proud to serve you. I am looking forward to a successful and prosperous 2025, and may God bless you all!” -Ellis County Judge Todd Little

Congratulations to Dave McSpadden for receiving the first Ellis County Exemplary Service Award! The Exemplary Service Award recognizes citizens who have contributed to the economic development and quality of life of Ellis County. If you’ve ever enjoyed a stroll through the “Wags-a-Hachie” dog park, shopped at the Tom Thumb, or enjoyed beautification efforts in Waxahachie, you can thank McSpadden for making these amenities possible through his service on the Waxahachie Community Development Board. McSpadden has also served in numerous leadership roles in the Waxahachie Rotary Club, including as President, District Governor’s Representative, District Director of International Service, Co-Founder and Chairman of District 5810, and Chairman of the Rotary International Leadership Institute. Additionally, McSpadden is a charter member of the Paul Harris Society, a contributor PDG Milton Kessel’s book on the history of Rotary District 5810, and Founder and Co-Chair of the 1991 “Spirit of America Rally” that coordinated the efforts of Districts 5810 and 5790 to sponsor an event for the troops of Desert Storm at Texas Stadium. Ellis County offices and courts will be closed on Monday, November 11th in observance of the Veteran’s Day holiday. Why are the Historic Courthouse lights green? Ellis County is currently participating in Operation Green Light, a nation-wide initiative hosted by the National Association of Counties (NACO) to help connect veterans with helpful resources. Wherever veterans see these lights, they are “green-lighted” to know that their local government can help connect them with job recruiters, health benefits, mental & emotional support, and other important resources. The Ellis County Veterans Services Office has now moved to 302 N. Monroe St., Waxahachie and can be reached at 972-825-5099. To all those who have served, we salute you and are here to help. Thank you for your service! #VeteransDay #VeteransDay2024

Your Vote: Secure! Now that early voting for the 2024 General Election is underway, we wanted to assure voters that Ellis County administers elections according to the highest standards required by the Texas Constitution & Election Code. In accordance with the Texas Election Code, our Elections Department routinely inspects voter rolls to ensure that only qualified Ellis County residents are registered to vote, while mail-in ballots require a pre-approved application. Additionally, in 2022 Ellis County took the initiative to voluntarily adopt a system of sequential, pre-numbered ballots – a system which later became mandatory under orders of the Texas Secretary of State in 2024. Sequentially-numbered ballots ensure that election results can be accurately audited while still preserving voter privacy. For information about voting hours & locations, or for assistance with voting, please contact the Ellis County Elections Department at 972-825-5195. #election2024
