About us
The Electrical Contractors’ Association of City of Chicago (ECA) is a construction trade association that provides business and labor relations services to nearly 600 electrical contractors in Cook County, Illinois. ECA is also known as the Chicago and Cook County Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). The Association works with its industry partner, Local Union #134 IBEW, to negotiate and administer labor agreements, coordinate apprentice and journeyman level training, as well as promote the industry on behalf of these employers. Since 1903, ECA has provided educational opportunities and business services to not only to assist the electrical contractor by improving the business climate and bringing increased profitability, but to enrich future generations. ECA and IBEW Local 134 work hand in hand to provide a highly skilled, efficient, and safe workforce for the City of Chicago and Cook County, Illinois.

The event was held at the Art Institute of Chicago in the iconic Chicago Stock Exchange Trading Room. The City of Chicago held its 111th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 22, 2024. Powering Chicago was again proud to sponsor the event. Elbert Walters, III, Powering Chicago Executive Director was on hand at the ceremony and offered remarks on behalf of the industry. The IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (INTECH) coordinated a special Open House on November 15 – 16, 2024. The Showcase & Open House featured industry vendors, tours of the school, and numerous informational sessions that featured new tools, new technology discussions, solar news, safety and code updates. The event brought many contractors, potential apprentices, high school students, the community, in regard to learning more about the union electrical construction industry and the many opportunities offered. As you are aware, the NECA - IIT Student Chapter is excited to participate in the upcoming Electrical Contracting Innovation Challenge sponsored by NECA and ELECTRI International. The challenge will begin in earnest in January 2025. Prior to that time, the students have had guest presenters throughout this semester to aid in familiarizing them with various aspects of the electrical construction industry. Milwaukee Tool is the latest industry-related entity to visit the students via an on-line presentation highlighting their particular specialties. The program was held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Maggiano’s Banquets in Oak Brook, IL.
