THE RESULTS ARE IN! ♻️🍎 A huge round of applause to all our STL Food Waste Challenge restaurant participants on a month of innovative, sustainable practices and taking food waste reduction to the next level: Olive + Oak, Sugarwitch , Flavor 360, Alpha Brewing Co, SqWires Restaurant and Market, and Panorama at St. Louis Art Museum 👏🏻👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿 Their efforts have demonstrated the many ways the restaurant industry can prevent food waste AND save money in the process. We are so proud of what each of them have accomplished, and to share even more data with you all since our first ever Challenge last year. We couldn’t have done this without all the employees who learned new things along the way to support their restaurants’ goals. 💚 A major thank you to our sponsors for making this possible: ReFED, Toast, St. Louis-Jefferson County Solid Waste Management District, and Missouri Department of Natural Resources! The effort doesn’t end here - ALL the participants have signed up for our new Food Waste Champion Track, and we can’t wait to see the creative ways they continue to keep food out of the landfill!

¡Felicidades! 🎉🌎☕ After certifying their WashU campus location last March, we’re thrilled to officially welcome Coffeestamp’s main brick-and-mortar on Jefferson Ave as the newest member of the Green Dining Alliance! This community-driven coffee shop, founded by brothers Patrick and Spencer Clapp, has sustainability brewed into every cup. They source their beans directly from small farms in Honduras, where they have family connections, ensuring fair trade practices and supporting the wellbeing of farmers behind every delicious sip. ☕🌱 Not only do they roast their beans in-house for the freshest flavor, but they also offer mouth-watering pastries - from local favorites at Diana’s Bakery to their house-made empanadas, made with locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. (Of course, vegan and vegetarian options are on the menu too!) Coffeestamp doesn’t stop at great coffee – they’re serious about waste reduction. Their team is trained on composting and recycling, and they even repurpose old coffee pots as planters. It’s no wonder they’ve been ranked as one of New Earth Farm’s 2024 Compost Champions! But what really sets them apart is their heart for the community. Coffeestamp donates food and coffee every month to those facing food insecurity, making a direct impact locally. We’re so excited to continue this sustainability journey with Coffeestamp! Stop by for a cup and support this amazing local gem. 💚

The St. Louis Food Waste Challenge is returning for its 2nd year this October! After a successful launch in 2023, we’re BACK and thrilled to have the invaluable support of ReFED's Catalytic Grant Fund, which allows us to expand and introduce even more innovative solutions for local businesses to keep food out of the landfill. Throughout October, we’ll be collaborating with numerous Green Dining Alliance restaurants to implement effective strategies for reducing food waste, with progress tracked through follow-up audits along with awards & recognitions in early November. We are still seeking participants, so challenge your favorite restaurant to join us and get serious about food waste this month! 🍎

Thank you all so much for making our Hard to Recycle Fair a success with an amazing 392 attendees! We have been pausing our annual recycling events ever since COVID-19 and are overjoyed not only to bring them back, but also be met with so much support from the community. 💚💚💚 We couldn’t have done it without our partner, Saint Louis University's AI CHESS Lab, and our sponsors, St. Louis - Jefferson County Solid Waste Management District and Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Of course, we can’t forget our specialized vendors: Midwest Recycling Center, Passback, Justused Tech, STLHelp, Remains, Home Sweet Home, and 10 Billion Strong. ♻️ Thank you to our volunteers for their hard work in making this possible, and our guests Pizza Head, Scoops Water Ice, and Amara Arts for bringing the deliciousness and fun!
