We design contemporary and modern architecture, preserve existing and historic resources, and unite old with new.

About us

At DBVW Architects, we believe in building strong, resilient, livable communities that promote smart growth, reinforce a unique sense of place, and celebrate the relationship between history and the future. We design contemporary and modern architecture, adapt and preserve existing and historic resources, and creatively unite old with new in response to our clients’ needs. Since the founding of the firm in 1994, DBVW has grown into one of the largest full-service architectural firms in Rhode Island, serving individuals, organizations, and communities throughout New England. We have a special interest in realizing the potential of existing buildings that may have otherwise been overlooked, and we have had the honor of preserving some of New England’s most important historic landmarks. We take sustainability seriously and believe that the best way to conserve cultural and natural resources is to repurpose rather than demolish. People know us for our eagerness to listen, to laugh, to get our hands dirty, and to put our noses to the grindstone. It is not uncommon to find us surveying at the top of scaffolding or measuring in a crawl space. We help our clients creatively solve challenges and make informed decisions at a comfortable pace by communicating simply, clearly, and effectively. Our goal is to help our clients enjoy the process as much as the architectural solution.

Progress continues at Province Post as we move forward with bringing 65 new apartments to life across four buildings. The team is doing an excellent job keeping the construction sequence on track, with key milestones being met each week. Building C is progressing smoothly, with foundations poured and vapor barrier completed, with Buildings A, B & D following closely behind.  In the coming weeks, we’ll see even bigger changes as we get ready for wall layout and framing of the first floor begins. We're excited to watch this development take shape! #ProvincePost #ConstructionProgress #AffordableHousing #BuildingCommunity

  • Please join us in celebrating longtime members of DBVW Architects Karissa Kuhns, AIA, LEED AP; Tami Hughes; and Nealia Morrison, AIA, AP LEED BD+C, who have been promoted to Associate Principal and joined the firm’s shareholders. “As we look back and celebrate the last 30 years of our practice, we are equally excited about celebrating the future of DBVW Architects,” Senior Principals Douglas Brown, Martha Werenfels, Michael Viveiros and Principal Pierson Booher said in a statement. “At this important juncture, we are delighted to elevate three key members of our team, Nealia, Tami, and Karissa, to Associate Principal. Each of these individuals has played a critical role in the success of DBVW Architects and we are delighted to welcome them to the leadership team.” Kuhns, Hughes, and Morrison have a combined 40 years at Providence-based DBVW. • Congratulations to DBVW Architects Principal Pierson Booher, AIA, who was appointed by Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee to serve as a Commissioner to the Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission. The Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission identifies and protects historic and prehistoric sites, buildings, and districts by nominating significant properties to the National Register of Historic Places and the State Register; administering grants, loans, and tax credits for rehabilitation of historic buildings; reviewing federal and state projects that affect cultural resources; and regulating archaeological exploration on state land and under state waters.

We are grateful for being part of this project for Outer Cape Health Services in Wellfleet. This healthcare facility will wrap up in the next few weeks in order to serve clients on the Outer and Lower Cape. In this 2300 SF remodel we transformed the interior space into new counseling offices, a break room, waiting area and conference room. Work involved abatement, demolition and a new layout to accommodate patients comfortably. Exterior work consisted in restructuring entrances, siding, widening the parking lot and drive-through lane for new parking spaces, surrounded by a 300' long by 12' tall retaining wall. Our crew is finalizing binder and new electrical service, excited for another great delivery! DBVW Architects, Outer Cape Health Services #buildingresponsibly #delphiconstruction #healthcare
