  • The best organizations don't just show forecasts to their board. They show how those forecasts are built. Earlier this week, our director of strategic finance, Kirk K., sat down with Daniel Villani on The Financial Innovations Podcast with Host Daniel Villani. Here's a sneak peek into the conversation where Kirk explains why walking through actual calculations in board meetings and not just reviewing results is a game changer for forecast accuracy 🎯 Tune in to the full podcast using the link in comments. P.S. This podcast makes for excellent company while stress-buying those Christmas presents you definitely didn't forget about 😉 #forecast #strategicfinance #fpna

  • CFOs are under constant pressure to keep investor data packs updated. Simplify this by integrating it with your re-forecasting process and stay always ready. Check out the full post here 👇

I've been observing this recent trend, where CEOs want the investor data pack to be continuously updated. With companies often in perpetual fundraising mode or looking to acquire other companies, there is always a need to share the data room and not just the board pack. So, CFOs are under constant pressure to maintain an up-to-date data room for both investors and M&As. If this is you, here's my suggestion: Instead of treating this as a separate task, whenever you re-forecast based on actuals, also update the relevant reports in your data room. This includes your P&L, cash flow projections, GTM/SaaS metrics. By doing this you'll ensure that your data room is always ready for external parties (investors, partners) who may need immediate access, without the extra work of preparing it each time. Happy to share templates, best practices and if anyone is interested how Drivetrain automates consolidation and centralization of all your forecast vs. actuals in your data room with access controls. Feel free to DM me!

  • Building a winning FP&A team goes beyond just finance skills. Here's how to hire for impact and strategic growth.

CFOs often ask me what to look for when hiring for an FP&A role. Having been fortunate enough to work with 100's of FP&A leaders across different companies… Here are some key factors to consider for your next hire: 1. Hire a data analyst rather than a finance analyst → You can teach finance but you can't teach the data mindset. 2. Hire a strategic thinker, not just a budget manager → Numbers follow strategy, not the other way around. 3. Hire a storyteller, not just a spreadsheet expert → Data is useless unless you can tell the story behind it. Prioritize curiosity over credentials. And that's how you build a winning FP&A team.
