A DELA graduate called today to share that he was grateful for what he learned in our Certified Diversity & Inclusion Recruiter (CDIR) program. He is the Diversity lead for a Fortune 250 company and said that he completed the training along with 11 employees. This cultural diversity expert deserves a shoutout because he had already completed the CDP, CDT, CDIP, and CDE. That amounts to 11 courses. Our courses are rigorous as any serious training for this expertise should be. The graduate said he’d has had enough and was not taking any more courses from us. Can you blame him? Then we described our new Cultural Diversity, Inclusion and Equity (CDEP) program. He became so excited that he asked to be the first to register. #dei #competence #training #cdp #cde #diversitycertification

“Criticism against DEI initiatives often intertwines with concerns over concepts like "critical race theory" (CRT). Christopher Rufo, a prominent opponent of DEI, alleges that institutions are utilizing DEI programs to indoctrinate students in CRT. The pushback against DEI extends beyond rhetoric, with over 70 bills targeting DEI introduced across numerous states since 2023. Ryan P. Williams, president of the Claremont Institute, denounces DEI as "fundamentally anti-American," equating it to affirmative action and racial preferences. The heightened scrutiny has placed universities under intense scrutiny, with only a few willing to openly discuss their DEI efforts.” #dei #siu #diversity #officer #backlash #best #practices https://lnkd.in/gwJNEB5S

“A separate survey of all Americans (not just workers) shows that DEI practices are widely seen as beneficial for marginalized groups, including black, hispanic, and asian men and women, as well as white women. However, 36% of Americans believe DEI efforts hurt white men, compared to only 14% who think they help. White adults: Nearly half (47%) believe DEI initiatives harm White men, significantly more than other racial groups. Political divides: Republicans are far more likely than Democrats to say DEI practices harm all groups, with a 37-point gap in perceptions of harm to White men (56% vs. 19%). DEI polarization persists The findings reveal a growing polarization around workplace DEI efforts, driven by demographic and political differences. Debates over the role and strategic effectiveness of DEI continue to intensify, while employers try to meet the challenge of balancing those opposing opinions while attempting to create inclusive workplace environments.” #dei #polarization #role #political #divide #practices #opinion #poll #workplace https://lnkd.in/gE2gKKcA

“The U.S. Census Bureau reports that while Black-owned businesses make up roughly 10% of all U.S. businesses, they receive less than 1% of venture capital funding. This gap between entrepreneurial ambition and financial backing highlights systemic inequities which the NAACP Capital aims to combat through the fund that serves as a form of reparative economic justice by providing Black entrepreneurs with essential resources for growth and success.” #restorative #justice #black #business #equity #supremecourt #legal #reparations https://lnkd.in/eSSQbVqt

“However, the 21st century has seen historians setting the record straight and uplifting heroes like Robert Smalls who have not gotten the national recognition they deserve. After years of lobbying by the community of Beaufort to have Smalls and the reality of the Reconstruction Era recognized, January 2017, President Barack Obama issued an executive order establishing Reconstruction Era National Monument (now known as Reconstruction Era National Historical Park) in Beaufort County in January 2017. And now South Carolina will erect a statue in Smalls' honor on the grounds of the statehouse. It's worth noting that the idea has been floated for years with bipartisan and biracial support, but had always faced some quiet opposition. Now it looks like everyone's on board, so it's just a matter of working out the exact design and location for the statue.” #confederate #monuments #beaufort #southcarolinna #slavery #robert #smalls #civil #war #sailor #congressman #reconstruction https://lnkd.in/gZPjtmQf
