Congratulations to #TAMUecen undergraduate students Ferris Nguyen ’26, Giridhar Narayan Prabhu ’26 and Andrew Thompson ’26, who were selected to hang their work on the 5th floor of the Zachary Education Complex as part of the 2024 Inaugural Engineering Art Contest! Nguyen, Prabhu and Thompson were chosen from 120 registrants, ranging from freshmen to Ph.D. candidates, as part of an art contest spearheaded by Dr. Robert Bishop ’79, dean of engineering. The theme was 'Aggie Engineering: Forging the Future,' and participants created an impressive variety of artwork, including digital media, paintings and electrical components. Only 40 of the 120 artists were selected to showcase their work in Zach! We love seeing our students' creativity and innovation! Read more: tx.ag/BeyondtheLectureHall

Dr. Tauhid Islam '20, one of Dr. Raffaella Righetti's previous #TAMUecen doctoral students, will become an assistant professor at Stanford starting next spring! Growing up, Dr. Islam was fascinated by his father's work in electrical engineering and its potential to solve complex problems. This early inspiration and his passion for innovation led him to pursue electrical engineering. Dr. Islam specialized in ultrasound elastography for breast cancer detection and analysis during his time at Texas A&M. His work aimed to improve imaging and diagnostic capabilities, ultimately contributing to advancements in non-invasive cancer diagnostics. He was also an active member of the Bangladesh Student Association at Texas A&M. He said this organization provided a wonderful sense of community and connection during his time there. "I have many cherished memories from Texas A&M, including long, insightful discussions with my supervisor, Dr. Raffaella Righetti, and brainstorming sessions with my labmate Songyuan Tang. The campus itself was incredibly beautiful, and I often find myself missing the vibrant and welcoming environment at Texas A&M," Dr. Islam added. After completing his Ph.D., he undertook a postdoctoral position at Stanford University. There, he expanded his research into biomedical data analysis, incorporating advanced AI and machine learning techniques into medical imaging and diagnostics. As an Assistant Professor at Stanford, he will teach courses on AI for biomedical data analysis, focusing on how machine learning and artificial intelligence can transform healthcare by improving diagnostics, treatment planning, and clinical decision-making. "I’d like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to my Ph.D. supervisor, Dr. Raffaella Righetti, whose guidance and mentorship have been instrumental in shaping my academic and research career. Her encouragement and insights continue to inspire me. Additionally, I feel privileged to contribute to the intersection of AI and healthcare, a field that holds immense potential for improving lives," Dr. Islam said.
