About us

DC Design is a social impact consulting firm focused on addressing systemic inequities in Education, Healthcare, Housing, Criminal Justice, Housing, Employment. We help social-sector organizations maximize their impact and create transformational change through research, strategy and design. We use Human Centered Design to help solve the world’s biggest problems. Our work includes redesigning aspects of the foster care system alongside nonprofits and business collaborators, partnering with governments to develop and implement strategies for reducing jail recidivism, consulting architects, physicians and nurses on designing optimal emergency departments, and developing award-winning educational programs to address challenges around physical disability. Our specialty is in multi-stakeholder design, which involves understanding the needs of diverse groups of people, finding key points of agreement, and identifying opportunities to create novel solutions to the challenges those stakeholders face. Our consulting services, educational design workshops, and products are aimed at creating a lasting positive impact on society and helping others do the same. At our core is the belief that those who experience a problem first hand should play a central role in solving it. We teach business and non-profit leaders, government officials, entrepreneurs, and students how to unlock the creativity they never knew they had by applying the same principles we use every day. Those we work with and train through our design process develop the insights needed to identify and solve the world’s most challenging problems.

  • Are you running your nonprofit on painkillers or vitamins? Nonprofit leadership can feel like juggling endless fires—reacting to funding gaps, managing team burnout, or scrambling to meet immediate demands. These are the pain points that keep you up at night, and it's natural to focus on finding "painkillers" to address them quickly. But what about your organization's long-term health? Are you also investing in "vitamins"—the strategies, systems, and culture that prevent future challenges and help your organization thrive? At DC Design, we partner with nonprofit leaders to: ✅ Address the immediate challenges you face, whether it’s program alignment or operational strain. ✅ Build the strategic foundation and processes that sustain your team, grow your impact, and reduce burnout over time. Painkillers are necessary, but they’re not the whole solution. To maximize your impact, you need a balance: solving today's problems while planning for a stronger tomorrow. What’s your organization's biggest "pain point" right now, and what would a "vitamin" solution look like? Let’s brainstorm together! 💡

✨ Are you ready to make 2025 the year your nonprofit transforms both its internal operations and community impact? Every nonprofit has 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀: • 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹: Operations, finances, and team dynamics. • 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹: Programs, evaluations, and the change you create in communities. • Nonprofit leaders, your work is far too important to get it wrong. 🌟 Strategic planning is a cornerstone of nonprofit success—a process most organizations revisit every 3-5 years. Yet, far too often, it’s treated as a checkbox activity. Have you experienced the following? 1. Mission statements that look great on paper, but don’t translate to action. 2. Plans that gather dust instead of driving real change. 3. Goals that sound inspiring but lack the steps to achieve them. But your work—uplifting communities, challenging inequities, and transforming lives—is too important to fall victim to a plan that doesn’t work. What if your strategic plan could do more? ✅ Clarify your mission in actionable terms. ✅ Identify and prioritize systemic challenges in your community. ✅ Engage your team in a unified, forward-moving strategy. 🗓️ Join us on November 21st for a free webinar: “How to Develop a Strategic Plan that Actually Works.” https://lnkd.in/da-uy2VX We’ll walk you through practical approaches to make your next plan - grounded in your community’s real needs, adaptive to the ever-changing nonprofit landscape, and focused on measurable, lasting impact. Your mission deserves a plan that works. Let’s build it together.

  • Do you know how we can break the cycle of generational poverty in America? It starts by addressing the root causes—the 5 systems of Black Inequality: housing, education, employment, healthcare, and criminal justice. These systems often produce predictable outcomes that perpetuate inequality. Recognizing these patterns is essential to creating change. Watch Durell Coleman explain our work with social sector organizations in tackling these inequities to build pathways to equity and lasting impact.
