  • Companies shouldn’t expect startup-level dedication unless they offer startup-level rewards. Hypothesis 3 of 10 in our deep dive into Corporate Venture Building (https://lnkd.in/eySRWsvu): Stretch to Offer Bold Incentives Real innovation demands real ownership. While startups thrive on potentially life-changing incentives, corporate ventures often stick to traditional bonus structures. But those compensation models simply don't cut it when building ventures that need to move at lightning speed.⚡ The potential upside needs to be truly staggering. But it’s a complex puzzle to crack. Here are our thoughts on how to do it better. We’d love to hear yours. • Are you a leader building corporate ventures? We’ve witnessed a puzzling trend: Companies keep acting as their own innovation islands. Yet successful ventures know—the best ideas are usually found outside the building. Agree? Breaking down corporate venture building in our recent article https://lnkd.in/eySRWsvu, here's our second hypothesis: 02. Open Up Your Idea Funnel Relying solely on internal ideation is like fishing in a pond when there’s an ocean available. The quantity of ideas is bound to be less. We argue the quality will suffer, too. Ideas closely related to a company’s core business might seem like a natural fit for a corporate venture building program. But that narrow approach can curtail the potential for disruption that more leftfield ideas can bring. Here’s hypothesis 2 of 10: Why outside ideas are a must, and how to find them. • Corporate Venture Building is complex. Let's break it down. In our recent article, (read it in full here: https://lnkd.in/eySRWsvu) we go in-depth on 10 hypotheses. Here's a closer look at the first: 01. More Than Anything Else, People Matter We've observed an oddity in corporate venture units: The most experienced and capable corporate leaders rarely choose to run them. Why? Because traditional corporate metrics don't align with entrepreneurial success. Think about it: How many EVP-level executives would trade their 1,000-person team for a 5-person startup? Yet, that's exactly the caliber of leadership successful ventures need. Here's hypothesis 1 of 10 when it comes to building successful corporate venture units: It's not just about having innovative ideas—it's about convincing the right people to run with them. It’s time to fundamentally reshape how we view entrepreneurial leadership in corporate settings. Here’s how we think that can be done.  👇 https://lnkd.in/eySRWsvu #CorporateInnovation #Leadership #Entrepreneurship #VentureBuilding #Corporateventurebuilding #Corporateventuring #Innovation #Design #Transformation

  • https://lnkd.in/eySRWsvu Corporate Venture Building– Increasingly popular, yet rarely successful. So how might we do a better job of it? Martin Kroeger, founder of Bosch LegendsLab , and Daylight partner Pascal Soboll sat down to discuss. The result is an honest and in-depth look at what’s going on in the field. They suggest 10 ways to improve on the current approach to corporate venture building. Are they right? #corporateventurebuilding #corporateventuring #innovation #design #transformation

As designers, it's always rewarding to see our work reach those who need it, and we're grateful for the chance to work with our clients and friends on projects that make a difference. Last Friday, Blue Shield of California Foundation and California Partnership to End Domestic Violence brought together journalists, survivors, and advocates at the Commonwealth Club to discuss how media coverage of domestic violence is evolving and to support a community around solutions-oriented reporting on this critical public health issue. This event marked the culmination of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and celebrated the launch of the Journalist Playbook, a resource created to support journalists in reporting on domestic violence with empathy and impact. The playbook was co-created by a stellar advisory group of journalists & survivors, Blue Shield of California Foundation, and Daylight. Thank you, Blue Shield of California Foundation, for including us in this journey and memorable event. Please check out the playbook at journalists.letsenddv.org and join us in shifting the narrative on domestic violence.

  • Domestic violence is everywhere, but it's not inevitable. It can be healed and prevented. To change how society views domestic violence, we first need to change how it's reported. In recent years, Daylight was fortunate to work with the amazing team at the Blue Shield of California Foundation towards changing the conversation around domestic violence. With help from journalists, survivors of domestic violence, the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence, and others, Blue Shield of California Foundation put together a solutions-based, practical resource to help journalists report on domestic violence with accuracy, empathy, and impact. The playbook is now live! Explore it at journalists.letsenddv.org We're proud of what we put into the world together with the Foundation and all the hard work that was put into the playbook this year. Please let us know your thoughts, and if you can - join the livestream, on October 25th! https://lnkd.in/dXu769Xb

Domestic violence is everywhere, but it’s not inevitable. It can be healed and prevented, and we all have a role to play. To change how society views domestic violence, we first need to change how it’s reported. Too often, media coverage sensationalizes high-profile cases, causing harm and overlooking the broader issue. But journalists have the power to shift this narrative. Solutions-based reporting can protect survivors, elevate solutions, and help end domestic violence. Learn more about how journalists and communities are working together through the new Journalist Playbook and let’s change the conversation together. #JournalistPlaybook #LetsEndDV #ChangeTheConversation #DVAM2024 https://lnkd.in/dqkBpYme

  • Generative AI can feel like a two-sided coin. Enthusiasm on one side, trepidation on the other. And whether you flip it 10 or 10,000 times, you’re all but guaranteed to end up with a mix of both. Just like everyone else, we at Daylight are currently on a learning journey about rewards and risks of this technology in our daily work. So, to kick off our series of insight articles, here’s our look at both sides of the coin, specifically as it relates to AI and healthcare. We brought together a few of our most experienced healthcare designers and we asked ourselves: What is the potential that excites us? What are the possible pitfalls and unintended consequences that worry us? In the end, we focused on four healthcare challenges that AI is uniquely positioned to mitigate. The sometimes-fearful questions our conversation generated don’t have easy answers. But they allow us to travel with our eyes open. Come on the journey with us here: https://lnkd.in/d_hdFi4b

  • Whenever we get together on our annual global gatherings at Daylight, as we will again in a few days in Seoul, we always end up talking late into the night. We discuss what we've worked on, what we have tried out, what worked, what hasn't (yet) – what we will do to advance, improve, grow. It's inspiring – every time. At some point, inevitably someone then says "We should write an article about that! We should see who else is interested! We can't be the only ones thinking about this!" Well, for the first time in a long time, we have. We will start publishing our new series of articles in about a week or two. Topics will vary widely. All will be about what keeps us up on those nights. The articles will draw from the deep well of continuously working to converge human needs and technology through design, across three continents. If design and innovation is your thing, if you like learning as much as we do, or if you just appreciate the occasional bite of brainfood, follow us here on LinkedIn to not miss any of the articles. Looking forward to many readers, comments, and ensuing conversations. #design #designthinking #innovation

Well this is a nice surprise! We got a nod in the Fast Company Innovation by Design awards for the Lunar System. Congrats to all my colleagues at Lunar Energy on this - and also to our friends at Daylight who we worked with on the product.
