As the season of giving continues, take a moment to hear from DAV's 2024 Philanthropist of the Year and a retired emergency room nurse, Jill Remick, about what giving back means to her. “I want to do so much more while I still have the health and physical ability to do it,” she said. “I think veterans don’t get the credit they deserve, and I’m just driven to ensure they get help.”

KEEPING OUR PROMISE TO AMERICA'S VETERANS
About us
DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is a leading nonprofit that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families. Every year, we help more than 1 million veterans in positive, life-changing ways by helping them access benefits they earned, like healthcare, education and disability, and connecting them to meaningful employment opportunities. We are committed to ensuring that the men and women who stood up for America have the tools, resources and opportunities they need to competitively enter the job market and secure meaningful employment. DAV recognizes the value, talent, education and work ethics that veterans add to the workforce. Through our partnership with RecruitMilitary, DAV sponsors career fairs, including virtual events, to connect veterans with employers nationwide who are committed to hiring them. DAV is the nation’s most resourceful veterans service organization, keeping the promise to support America’s veterans. Learn more at www.DAV.org.

At a time where many of us are gathering around tables filled with loved ones, sharing laughter and joy, we cannot forget those who are suffering. On National Homeless Persons Remembrance Day, we take a moment to recognize the homeless veterans in our communities, many of whom lack even the most basic of necessities like a safe and warm place to sleep. Through our support and generosity, we can help ensure that these veterans receive the respect and care they deserve. There are many ways to show your support for the homeless veterans in your communities and we urge you to take action. Learn more at http://dav.la/3m1.

In the years since the Second Battle of Fallujah, Navy veteran Sean Aragon's hand still shakes. He developed a speech problem, which was never an issue, and breaks down when triggered by the memories. "There isn't a day that I don't consider the three Marines I lost," he said. "All of these memories overlaid on top of each other, and it's like a film reel." Aragon’s story is just one of many included in DAV’s latest multimedia project commemorating the 20th anniversary of the battle and its effect on those who served during the most intense urban fighting since the Vietnam War. Visit fallujahstories.org to view the full project and hear interviews with Aragon and other veterans. #Fallujah20

🚨 Unless there is a funding agreement reached by Congress today, the federal government will begin to partially shut down at midnight. 🚨 While this news will understandably bring concerns to veteran households, it is important to remember that because the VA receives funding a year in advance, there will be little immediate impact on veterans' benefits and critical services, including access to health care and payment of disability compensation, DIC, educational support and other benefits. The Veterans Crisis Line will continue operating uninterrupted, burials and interments at veterans cemeteries will continue, as will many other essential VA functions. We continue to call on Congress and the White House to work together in a bipartisan way to prevent a shutdown that impacts any of VA’s services. Click the link in the comments for a more detailed list of what will and will not be impacted in the event of a partial government shutdown. #veterans #governmentshutdown #congress #government
