⚠️ There is still time to get a copy of Chart Spark by Alli Torban and read the first 4 chapters before discussing them on Friday, August 2nd! 💎 Alli will be joining us on Friday, August 16th, so even if you can't make the first meeting, you have plenty of time to catch up. 🌍 Anyone from anywhere in the world is welcome to join us. You can participate by joining our live Zoom meetings, or participate asynchronously via Slack. (I think Alli is on our Slack space.) 🎁 Alli's publisher even has a discount code, for the book and accompanying course, that I will share in the comments. 📚 Make sure to sign up for the Data Book Club by joining the Data Careers Summit mailing list (also linked in the comments). 😄 So, really, you have no excuse. Heck, the book is on Hoopla and Libby. Join us! #DataBookClub #DataCareersSummit

Your votes are in and we're thrilled to announce the winning book for our next book club. Drumroll... ☀️ This summer we will be reading Chart Spark by Alli Torban. This book is "a practical guide designed to change your perspective on creativity and integrate it into your work. Each chapter includes actionable prompts designed to trigger your creativity, rather than just admire the finished product of others." 📅 Mark your calendars and join the Data Book Club as we explore the book's key themes and practical applications in our professional and personal lives. We will be meeting virtually starting August 2nd at 11am CT, but we also have a Slack space to discuss the book asynchronously as well as share notes, ideas, and resources! ➡️ Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/erYjp_dK #DataBookClub #DataCareersSummit

☀️ HELLO SUMMER ☀️ Each new season means a new Data Book Club selection. Voting is open for the next 2 weeks for the following books: 1️⃣ Chart Spark: Harness your creativity in data communication to stand out and innovate by Alli Torban This book is "a practical guide designed to change your perspective on creativity and integrate it into your work. Each chapter includes actionable prompts designed to trigger your creativity, rather than just admire the finished product of others." 2️⃣ Factfulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World – and Why Things Are Better Than You Think by Hans Rosling, Ola Rosling, and Anna Rosling Rönnlund The authors "reveal the ten instincts that distort our perspective—from our tendency to divide the world into two camps (usually some version of us and them) to the way we consume media (where fear rules) to how we perceive progress (believing that most things are getting worse)." 3️⃣ Data Feminism by Catherine D'Ignazio and Lauren Klein "A new way of thinking about data science and data ethics that is informed by the ideas of intersectional feminism. Today, data science is a form of power. It has been used to expose injustice, improve health outcomes, and topple governments. But it has also been used to discriminate, police, and surveil." ➡️ I'll post a link to sign up in the comments. #DataBookClub #bookclub #data

Voting is neck and neck, with only a single vote separating two of the options. That said, last season the third option came from behind to win it, so anything can happen. If you want to read one of these books alongside others in the #DataBookClub community, join us on Slack to vote! Link to join in the comments. #datafam #readingclub
