At Dalan, we're on a mission to transform animal health, in honeybees and beyond. After developing the world’s first vaccine for honeybees, we are now solving unmet needs in shrimp farming—a $40 billion industry facing devastating disease losses annually. Shrimp farming suffers significant losses each year from a variety of diseases, including White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV). Our vaccine technology has shown promising results in early aquaculture trials—offering the potential of a sustainable, effective solution for an industry heavily reliant on chemical treatments. By focusing on the innate immune system, we aim to improve invertebrate health, reduce environmental impact, and support global food production. More information to come! The team is enjoying a great week at the American Honey Producers Association Conference in San Antonio, TX! As we enter into the second half of our conference season, we reflect on our positive experience so far connecting with curious new beekeepers and reconnecting with those already experiencing the benefits of vaccination in their apiaries. With several more conferences on the horizon, including ABF, The Bee Expo, Midwest HoneyBee Expo, and Manitoba Beekeepers, we’re eager to meet even more of you. Notably, we will be presenting new research on DWV reduction at ABF and The Bee Expo, both taking place early next year. Dalan's CEO, Annette Kleiser, recently attended the inaugural Shrimp Master Class in Miami, FL. We were thrilled to participate in this immersive event as Dalan explores its expansion into aquaculture. The master class offered insights into the latest advancements and challenges in the shrimp industry through engaging lectures and demonstrations by industry leaders. As part of the experience, Annette and other attendees toured Sun Shrimp® Farms, gaining a fascinating glimpse into the future of shrimp production. A huge thank you to Gabriel Luna, the organizers, and all the speakers for a memorable and inspiring event! #Shrimpmasterclass

The recent hurricanes have had a devastating and lasting impact on many Southern communities, including the beekeeping community. The storms destroyed not only hives but also essential sources of nutrition for bees. Today, dedicated volunteers from Mann Lake Bee & Ag Supply and other industry organizations came together to provide relief, loading donated syrup, pollen patties, and raw sugar to support affected beekeepers. We are proud to take part in the effort, helping to support hardworking beekeepers and vital pollinators. I’m pleased to have been invited to speak on #pollinatorhealth at the #worldOneHealthCongress in Cape Town. Sharing the work of #Dalan to improve honeybee health through vaccination: reducing the need for antibiotics, supporting #biodiversity and #foodsecurity while reducing potential #antimicrobialresistance (#AMR). Thanks to the organizers for driving this growing and diverse movement of #OneHealth that brings together medical, veterinary and environmental experts, social scientists and policymakers, with strong endorsement of the Quadripatrite: #WHO, #FAO, #WOAH and #UNEP to tackle some of our most pressing health issues with “joined-up thinking”!

We are excited to share new experimental data on our bacterial vaccine's potential to significantly reduce Deformed Wing Virus variant B (DWV-B) in honeybees. In this experimental study, we found that AFB-vaccinated hives showed 83% average reduction in the levels of DWV-B quantities compared to controls, independent of mite load. "To our knowledge, this is the first use of activating the immune system using a dead bacterium to provide protection against a virus in an invertebrate. These results open exciting new possibilities for combating viral threats in honeybee populations, which have few methods for control available." said Dr. Annette Kleiser, CEO and co-founder of Dalan Animal Health. Each year, the Grist 50 list highlights 50 climate leaders who are driving unique and innovative solutions across various fields, communities, and the world. We are thrilled to announce that our CEO and Co-founder, Annette Kleiser, has been named to the 2024 Grist 50 list for her leadership in developing the world’s first honeybee vaccine! “We can’t address climate change without protecting insects and honeybees,” Kleiser emphasized. With rising temperatures threatening crops and pollinator habitats, we hope our efforts will change how people view insects. “They play a crucial role in the food supply chain, and global food security depends on them”.
