Big news if you love Teams. It's about to get even smarter with some powerful new upgrades. One of the standout features due to roll out in 2025 is improved transcription and translation capabilities. Teams will support 51 spoken languages and 31 translation languages – so you’ll be able to transcribe and translate conversations in real time, whether your meeting is in English, Spanish, or Mandarin. Once your meeting is over, participants will get an automatic recap in their chosen language, complete with a detailed transcript. There’s also a great new Copilot summary feature coming to Teams, which will let you see a quick overview of documents shared in chats. Only those with file access will be able to view the summary, and it’ll follow the same sensitivity rules as the original file, saving you time while keeping documents secure. If that’s not enough, Teams is also integrating with Storyline. This will let you and your team see updates, share ideas, and stay in the loop about what’s happening in your business, all within the Teams app. These updates are just some of the ways that Teams is evolving into a more inclusive tool for businesses of all sizes. Microsoft have revealed some exciting AI-powered updates for Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint – all thanks to Copilot. In Excel, the new “start experience” lets you tell Copilot what kind of spreadsheet you need, such as a budget sheet or sales report. Copilot will then suggest a template and even customize it with headers, formulas, and visuals to kickstart your work. In Outlook, Copilot can analyze your calendar to find the best times for meetings or focused work. It can even draft meeting agendas based on your goals, helping you to stay on track. As for PowerPoint, Copilot is introducing Narrative Builder, which lets you create a polished presentation complete with speaker notes, animations, and a branded design in minutes. It can also translate slides into 40 languages without changing the design of your slides – a huge win for international teams. Microsoft recognizes that AI is changing how we work, and this is just the beginning. These new features have already started to roll out, with Outlook’s update already available, and the Excel and PowerPoint features coming very soon. Microsoft are introducing a fantastic new feature called “Catch up with Copilot”, making it easier than ever to dive back in after time away. This clever tool will give you quick updates on any new files or folders in your OneDrive. It can summarize changes to documents you’ve worked on, highlight new files that have been shared with you, and even point out any “@mentions” that need your attention. It’s like having a personal assistant to sort through your digital workspace. You can relax during your time off, without worrying that you’ll miss something when you get back. Heads up: Cyber criminals are using yet another new trick to steal business data. This time, it involves something called SVG files. SVG (or Scalable Vector Graphics) files are different from typical image files like JPG or PNG. Instead of being made of tiny pixels, SVG images are created using lines and shapes defined by code. They’re commonly used in web design, because you can resize them without losing image quality. But they’re now being used by scammers to carry out phishing attacks, where they pose as a trusted person to trick you into sharing sensitive information. SVG files can contain hidden code including scripts that run when the image is opened. Scammers can use this to create fake login forms or redirect you to phishing sites. The SVG files are disguised as innocent-looking email attachments. Some mimic official documents or spreadsheets, prompting you to click and unknowingly download malware (malicious software). These files often slip past security software because they don’t behave like traditional image files. If you receive an email with an SVG attachment, it’s a red flag – especially if you weren’t expecting it. Unless you’re a developer who works with SVGs regularly, it’s safer to delete emails containing these attachments.
