Medication safety refers to the practices and measures implemented to minimize the risk of medication errors and adverse drug events in various settings across the healthcare continuum. It is a critical process for protecting patients from harm and improving healthcare quality. Since 2000, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has supported 123 patient safety projects related to enhancing medication safety. In partnership with AFYA INC, CVP has summarized AHRQ's investments in this pathway toward safer care, including project findings, outputs, and impacts. Bottom line: improvements in medication safety can make a big difference for patients and providers. Here's a sneak peek of a few findings: 🏥 Intervention increased HIV primary care providers' adherence to CDC Opioid Prescribing Guidelines, addressing the opioid crisis 🏥 Barcode verification technology in electronic medication administration systems decreased dispensing errors and potential adverse drug events, showing a positive financial impact 🏥 Multifaceted IT intervention combining clinical information systems, clinician alerts, and decision support tools lowered hospitalization rates and medication complexity risks Read the published patient safety research summary to learn more @bit.ly/4e1Pt0R #PatientSafety #PatientCare #HealthAndSafety #MedicationSafety #AHRQ #CVP #Innovation #CVPHealthcareResarchAndTechnology

December 1 is World AIDS Day. This year’s theme, “Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress,” calls for building on the strides made under the 2022-2025 National HIV/AIDS Strategy. As part of these efforts, CVP’s Health Research & Technology team has worked with HRSA’s Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program to use data to reveal program impacts through the Compass Dashboard. The work moving ahead must address emerging needs and ensure support for people in priority groups, including older adults and people from marginalized communities. You can help build inclusive, impactful strategies by providing input on the HHS Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy’s (OIDP’s) 2026–2030 National Strategic Plans for STIs, Viral Hepatitis, Vaccines, and HIV/AIDS. Share your feedback by December 6, 2024. To view the Compass Dashboard, visit https://lnkd.in/eCxbPBc6.
