Our October recap begins with an event we attended in 2023, 2024, and hopefully in 2025 too. Annually a local nonprofit, Foundation for Health Leadership & Innovation (FHLI) hosts the Bernstein Event. It honors an individual, Jim who challenged the current design of health (back in the 1980s) and actively became part of a solution to become better. It’s also a time to celebrate the latest Jim Bernstein Fellows in their journey. This annual gathering unites community health leaders, public officials, and grassroots advocates to build connections, celebrate successes, and strategize for the future. CuraHuman enjoys attending because it gives a more holistic approach to caring for humans in the workplace. Well-Being is now being intentionally integrated within the business model. Innovation takes discipline, intention, and consistency. Our owner always seeks mission alignment when engaging in community. As a woman, woman of color, and person with a disability she has personal lived experience of inequitable patient care. We support any organization that prioritizes social drivers of health to dismantle inequitable systems. It has been a joy to have worked with this organization over the past year to set up their Human Resources function. They have embraced a modern HR as a business partner. They also elevated their own leadership through coaching and growth. The staff at FHLI are creating systems level change that will ultimately improve the workplace for all, because a healthier workforce is a more authentic one! Our mental faculties constantly assess for the danger or threat. Creating a neural pathway for a better experience starts with focusing energy on positive reinforcement. The Tuesday Terrific Leader series is a way to bridge the singularity of experience. It’s a way to acknowledge an emergence of patterns for creating solid leaders. Our Humanities teacher is a great leader. He would challenge us on what made us believe what we believed. In order to be a great leader, you have to cure your human. Indirectly he inspired transformational leaders. He had us become aware of our bias and create systems level change locally. Some moments to celebrate: -Grief Support: he comforted a group of us in middle school when we unexpectedly lost a friend in death -Cultural Competency: he shared how is grandmother would encourage him to kiss her hand as a sign of respect -Celebrate Language: sometimes he spoke to us in Arabic -Financial Literacy: the value of the dollar and economics when we participated in the Econ Bowl competition -Test Technique: taught us how to pass a standard test for the sake of testing, and actually helped us learn for the sake of learning -Circle of Influence: he would break up the cliques of likeness, creating new diverse groups for school work -Amplified Voices: respected the introverts and yet invited them to converse in their own way (advanced questions, written thoughts, etc) -Accountable: Created and sustained a classroom for pyscological safety, removing bigotry and bullying One of the most terrific lessons, lives in CuraHuman today. *No ad hominem attacks.* We never attack the person. We always focus on the problem itself not the people involved. A humanities teacher that cared about humans. Thank you to a teacher that was never so attached to his identity that he lost sight of his purpose. He poured into us for over four years. Embrace being human, cure your human. Meaningful Movement Monday: A year ago today we were finishing up one of our first contracts with a local nonprofit as a business. Over six months into entrepreneurship, there was a lot to absorb and learn. Over the past year though, we have had the opportunity to work on amazing impactful assignments. As we end another calendar year, this week’s meaningful movement is to start slowing down. It’s too easy to succumb to ending the year strong or trying to achieve one more goal…instead choosing to be paced takes courage. Choosing to start a business takes courage. Our owner keeps to her core values to stay courageous. Her identity as a Choiceness Celestial Coach aligns with letting the light shine out of the darkness. In 2022, she was in a period of darkness. This image was captured in April 2022. It reminds us that light can exist in any darkness. Today we share to express our commitment to slowing down and committing to inner work. Celestial is in our name because CEL means we will continue to curate, engage, and LightKeep. The painting of the lighthouse is a beautiful reminder in our home. You can always choose light. Be light: embrace being human, cure your human. Our Lightkeeper Leadership Curation (LLC) was designed from our existence as humans. Each and every one of us desire The Exquisite Being Experience (EBX) of becoming our full whole selves. Sometimes meaningful movement is slower movements not faster ones. Tomorrow we will be attending the Raleigh Metro Society for Human Resource Management (RMSHRM) as a guest panelist. It’s their last event of the year and it is an honor to be present for it. Our meaningful movement has us easing out the year among friends for this topic. Ellysa S. will be spilling the tea on her experience with mentoring. Our September recap ends with gratitude to the Athena of the triangle. We returned promptly from Chicago to be present for the ceremony. The Leadership Awards Luncheon was an opportunity to see those we connected with at the VIP reception weeks prior. The venue was local to us (we enjoy supporting local economic development) The Pavilion at Carriage Farm and extending hospitality with a beautifully inviting color scheme for ATHENA. The nonprofit is celebrating a decade just like our Chief Human of serving in the industry. One of our most salient moments for our Choiceness Coach was engaging with the local STEM high schoolers from the Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy. They were honored to have conversations about our business CuraHuman and to hear that Ellysa S. was a STEM college graduate. Overall many of these ones expressed delight to have seen this human cure her human. The theme for the ceremony was Igniting Action. Our interaction and recognition as a thought leader will allow CuraHuman to continue its incredible impact. Thank you to KPMG US for their sponsorship and personal acknowledgement of their mentor who supported Ellysa years ago in the Disability:IN program to empower undervalued leaders including women, women of color, and people with disabilities. Our September recap continues with our first trip to Chicago. As an original NYC native we enjoy exploring another city. In September 23-25 CuraHuman attended one of our favorite conferences. Our Chief Human was invited to join the CTE Leadership Collaborative Convening as an alumni. Our Choiceness Coach was a part of the inaugural fellowship for HR professionals in 2021 and has stayed involved in the community ever since. SHRM (Society of Human Resources Management) helped sponsor the first Talent of Tomorrow Fellowship in joint partnership with JFF and the ECMC Foundation. As an employer with an employee in the ToT fellowship or as an HR professional who participates in the program, our leader was able to develop lasting strategies for talent development and recruitment. The program also enables students from community colleges and CTE programs to gain access to meaningful opportunities with employers who previously focused their recruiting efforts on people with four-year degrees. That makes the Talent of Tomorrow Fellowship a win-win proposition for tapping into undervalued populations. This Fellowship expanded strategic partnerships needed for equitable and inclusive talent pipelines. It also encouraged more systems level change through economic development initiatives to support workforce development intentionally and with locality. On a personal level it empowered Ellysa to create CuraHuman to empower more people to transform their leader to support all undervalued populations. It has served our owner well to participate and graduate from a program that is shifting to a more modern approach to our human capital challenges. She now has the resources and expertise to navigate small business owners as well as nonprofits to further their impact. Many may not know that Ellysa S. was a general science major so to be at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry with special access was a treat!
