Katherine’s journey into architecture began at age 11, inspired by her family’s work in construction. She earned a full scholarship to the Macaulay Honors College at The City University of New York, The City College of New York and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s in architecture in 2016. Katherine became a licensed architect in 2019 at the tender age of 26, which placed her among the 1.5% of Latina architects in the U.S. Her achievements have led to recognition as one of the Top 50 Women in Business by Long Island Business News. With a steadfast belief and commitment to designing spaces that create lasting impact and foster belonging, healing, community, empowerment, sustainability, Katherine founded Rooted Architecture Studio in 2021. Rooted Architecture Studio is an architectural firm that seeks to ease the worries of clients by providing customized, meaningful solutions to their spatial needs. The firm’s mission is to demystify the role of the architect and make the complexities of construction and regulations more accessible. 🌉 Engineering: where creativity builds bridges CUNY Startups Program Intern, Kwabena Twum had a valuable conversation with CUNY Startups Alum, Baruch College alum, Designer and Engineer, Anastasiya U. Anastasiya completed our Ideas 2 Impact program in 2020 and received her BBA in Computer Information Systems in 2022. After CUNY Startups, Anastasiya further enhanced her skills with an apprenticeship at ArtTech Startup. She was later promoted to Front-End Engineer and Designer and designed the mobile app for Design Miami, which is published on the App store. Anastasiya is passionate about blending design and coding to create innovative solutions that enhance user experiences. As a design engineer in the tech industry, Anastasiya has built impactful web experiences and collaborated with teams to design, brand, market, and code cutting-edge projects. Her work as both a designer and a front-end engineer showcases the importance of having a multifaceted skill set, perseverance, and creative thinking in the tech industry. Anastasiya is currently a Partner, at Internet Development Studio Company. Kwabena’s conversation with Anastasiya underscored the importance of interdisciplinary skills in design and engineering, as well as the value of programs like CUNY Startups in helping aspiring entrepreneurs and tech professionals build successful careers. Less than five years ago, these gentlemen were eager The City University of New York students with a shared vision to make job searching easier and determination to create their own startup. Together, they founded Stipplo, a powerful job application tracking tool that gives job seekers everything they need to simplify and complete their job search hunt. And it’s still in business! This highlights how a clear, real-world problem can drive innovation and lead to the creation of a successful business.
