Climate-resilient coastal urban infrastructures through digital twinning
About us
CREST is a 3-year project co-funded by the JPI Urban Europe programme and managed by a consortium of 8 partners from France (ETTIS research laboratory of the INRAe- of the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment , the Business School of Economics of the University of Bordeaux, Accent Sud association), Poland ( Gmina Kołobrzeg, INnCREASE Sp. z.o.o, IRMiR- Institute of Urban and Regional Development ) and Norway ( Augmentcity AS, Møre og Romsdal Fylkeskommune). The project goal is to help vulnerable urban areas to set-up and roll-out collaborative platforms through the Advanced Technology and Augmented Reality of Digital Twinning and through co-creation approaches, in order to support collective environmental decision-making and innovative policy practices, enabling robust and resilient responses in 3 European urban areas for resilient urban infrastructure adaptation to climate change. Climate change largely impacts urban life. Extreme temperatures have an impact on sea level rise and, subsequently, nefarious events such as floods, droughts and storms have costly impacts on cities' basic services, infrastructure, housing, livelihoods and health. Cities are responsible for 75% of CO2 emissions, and so its stakeholders must come forward with out of the box solutions to promote innovation and stimulate urban resilience by limiting negative impacts of climate change. But for a problem to be addressed, it must first be seen and felt. Visualization is a potential way of increasing engagement with climate change, and IT developments, such as Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality, provide significant advancements that can be transformative in engaging audiences with climate change issues. This is at the basis of Augmentcity which developed a ground-breaking way to operate digital twins of cities, enabling data and “what-if” scenarios.

A lot happened this week for CREST project. Monday 4th, under heavy rains and floods, we met in Barcelona for our consortium meeting, and we felt as never before the importance of the work we do in CREST, and urgent is climate change adaptation for urban coastal areas, but also how vital is the way we communicate and engage citizens. Tuesday 5th November, hosted by Dell Technologies and NVIDIA, we had the opportunity to present at the Smart City Expo World Congress the outputs of #CREST project and the use cases of "what-if" scenarios in the urban areas of #Kolobrzeg (Poland) and #Kristiansund (Norway). We showcased how #augmentedreality and #DigitalTwins can empower communities to better understand and engage with climate resilience initiatives and policy decision-making. If you are still at the Expo today, see you at Dell Technologies | NVIDIA Booth D101 - Hall 3. Thanks to the support of JPI Urban Europe. This week, we had our projcet meeting for CREST Climate-resilient coastal urban infrastructures through digital twinning in Barcelona. Our project team also had the opportunity to present at the #SmartCityExpo, showcasing how digital twins can empower communities to understand and engage with climate resilience initiatives. Special mention to Scott Young, Rosemary Aghedo and Jan Franciszek Wiśniewski for presenting the project and the cases from Kristiansund kommune and Kolobrzeg. Their insights highlighted the importance of tailored approaches to climate adaptation in different regions. The recent floods here in Spain have been a stark reminder of how urgent this work truly is. Climate adaptation isn't just a theoretical need; it’s a critical priority. By leveraging digital twins, we can equip citizens with tools and knowledge to be active participants in building resilient, sustainable futures. #ClimateAdaptation #DigitalTwins #SmartCities #Resilience #Barcelona Paul Halas Dora Fazekas Silvia Cibien

CREST Climate-resilient coastal urban infrastructures through digital twinning reposted this
🌟 Co-Creation Workshop 🌟 Yesterday, we had the privilege of hosting a dynamic co-creation workshop as part of the CREST Climate-resilient coastal urban infrastructures through digital twinning, aimed at fostering robust urban infrastructure. Bringing together four diverse groups of participants, our goal was not only to enhance capacity building but also to drive co-creation for resilient communities. The CREST-project is dedicated to help vulnerable urban areas to set-up and roll-out collaborative platforms through digital twinning and co-creation approaches to support environmental decision-making and innovative policy practices, enabling robust and resilient responses to climate change. During the workshop, we delved into scenarios of wind impact on Kristiansund kommune exploring potential challenges such as bridge closures and ferry disruptions. It was an eye-opening experience, highlighting the importance of proactive planning and collaboration in mitigating such risks. A huge thank you to all the participants for their valuable insights and contributions! Together, we're paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable future. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our journey with the CREST-project. 💪 #CoCreation #UrbanInfrastructure #Sustainability #CRESTProject Møre og Romsdal fylkeskommune Solveig Stornes Maria Victoria Silva Rosemary Aghedo Kwadwo Nketia Kumankuma Sarpong Elin Kamsvag
