This season brings a lot of joy— and a lot of stress. Last night, we invited our community out to discuss the science behind it all! Together, we unpacked the science behind stress itself, the impact it can have on our bodies, as well as practical strategies for managing it with The Ohio State University's Dr. Ruchika Prakash and our very own Frederic "Dr. B" Bertley. Thanks to everyone who joined us for this incredible conversation. There's just nothing like sitting in a room full of curiosity! Keep an eye out for our next session of Science Meets Society! Thank you to COhatch for hosting us!

What a way to kick off the holiday season! 🤩 🎁 Yesterday our team worked with Human Service Chamber of Franklin County to hand out 5,000 Learning Lunchboxes to local non-profits & organizations! This distribution, as well as the distribution of over 15,000 kits throughout this past year, was made possible by the generous support of our Franklin County Commissioners. We are so grateful to have them with us in our mission to bring more STEAM inspiration & opportunity to our city's young innovators. Over the coming year, their support will also allow us to distribute over 15,000 additional kits to our community! 🧡 Science is for everyone— and together we're working to make sure everyone feels empowered to start learning!

COSI - Center of Science and Industry reposted this
Today's Haiku: Leadership matters Congresswoman best in class COSI on C-SPAN We are humbled that the Honorable Congresswoman Joyce Beatty from the Ohio 3rd Congressional District emphasized the importance of STEM education nationally. Understanding COSI - Center of Science and Industry's position that “science is everywhere and for everyone” Congresswoman Beatty testified on Capital Hill this week about two impactful COSI initiatives. The first was the recognition of 12-year-old Kambridge Elder from the Arts Impact School of Columbus City Schools - Ohio as the winner of the ornament design competition that COSI, in partnership with the Ohio Arts Council, Columbus City Schools and the USDA Forest Service, launched in honor of COSI hosting the Capital Christmas Tree for a day. In the second instance, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty recognized and appealed for continuous bi-partisan support for the bill to create a National STEM Week for this great nation! The original bill, co-sponsored by Congresswoman Beatty and @U.S. Representative Michael T.W. Carey(R-OH 15th District), and led by COSI, EXPLR and supported by over 100 partners, aims to identify a week in the year’s calendar where STEM (science technology engineerin and math) and STEAM are highlighted, celebrated and demonstrated for the nation. Please check out C-PSAN at: https://lnkd.in/gCmmXnxW for the testimonial. Congresswoman Beatty made COSI proud, the State of Ohio proud and ourr nation proud. I would like to thank all involved including the staff of Joyce Beatty's office for making this US Congress Floor presentation possible. Indeed, “science is for everyone” and this National STEM Week Act will provide the roadmap and cover to insure it is actualized. Please share out and support as you see fit, Sincerely.

We are deeply honored and incredibly proud to announce our STEAM Learning Lunchbox Program has been recognized with two prestigious national awards this week! The program earned Gold for The Anthem Awards, as well as both Bronze & Audience Honor from last night's Shorty Awards. Seeing STEAM initiatives celebrated on a national scale like this is an exciting push to continue sharing our love for science with learners throughout our state, country, and world. Science is for everyone!

What a way to kick off the holiday season! 🎄 We were honored to be chosen by USDA Forest Service as a stop for this year's U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree on it's journey from Alaska to Washington, D.C.! Thank you to Joyce Beatty, our partners at USDA and all of our neighbors for coming together to make this day so special. The People's Tree— now adorned with an ornament designed by a local Columbus student and an ornament shouting out your local science center— is off to The Maryland Theatre next!
