  • We're looking forward to this project breaking ground soon. CORVUS provided Clean Water Act (CWA) section 404 compliance, with a wetland delineation, CO Stream Quantification Tool assessment, and permitting through the US Army Corps of Engineers. We are tasked with assisting with construction oversight for revegetation and will likely stay on the project for a handful of years after completion, monitoring and advising on continued vegetation success and stream health.

Exciting developments are soon underway along Westerly Creek at Stanley Marketplace! Construction will begin this winter on project that will transform the corridor and has been years in the making. Some of the key project objectives include rehabilitating channel health by restoring over 1,500 linear feet of channel and establishing connectivity through the corridor through over 1,000 linear feet of regional trail and two bridge crossings. This project will also maximize open space and recreation as work was done with private property owners to enhance programmatic space. Water quality becoming an amenity by providing nearly 3 ac-ft of water quality for the adjacent redeveloping neighborhood was also a priority. As with all our projects it wouldn’t nearly be the success without the amazing project team we are fortunate to work with. The project sponsors included both Mile High Flood District and City of Aurora and our design team was comprised of Stream Landscape Architecture + Planning (who developed the awesome graphics!), San Engineering LLC, GROUND Engineering Consultants, Inc., CORVUS Environmental Consulting, Clanton & Associates, and T2 Utility Engineers. Keep your eye out for frequent updates as construction begins!

  • Congrats to Jimmy for getting his first professional certification, Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT). I'd say you've earned it, after 3+ years of weekly wetland delineation, permitting, and restoration work!

Wetland Specialist at CORVUS Environmental Consulting

I’m happy to share that I’ve obtained a new certification: Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT) from Society of Wetland Scientists! Big thanks to all the folks that have helped me learn about the fascinating world of wetland science and gain the experience to qualify for this certification. Especially those at the Colorado Natural Heritage Program and my colleagues here at Corvus. Excited to continue this journey.

  • This section of North Douglas Creek, in CO Springs, was a fun project to document the existing conditions on, and then work through appropriate permitting and revegetation ideas with the project team. This was early on in the CO Stream Quantification Tool rollout by the #USACE, where we used the Beta version to document things like "Greenline Stability Rating", and other required parameters. It's impressive to see the destruction that ongoing high water events can cause, and equally impressive to see the engineering solutions designed as a response. We're proud to be involved in fun and challenging projects like this! #MBTA #Environmentalconsulting #streams #COsprings #engineering #wetlands #biology #birds #snakes #revegetation

Unstable vertical banks and significant erosion on the North Douglas Creek were contributing to high sediment loads downstream in Monument and Fountain Creeks and threatening Interstate 25, railroads, adjacent property owners, and utilities. Extremely high flow velocities were also causing infrastructure damage and safety concerns in the area. Our team was chosen to provide design, bidding, and construction phase services, and submit a Conditional Letter of Map Revision (CLOMR) and Letter of Map Revision (LOMR). Natural channel design can be extremely challenging in urban settings, and even more so when there are multiple stakeholders and site constraints to consider. But our team has experience on natural channel design projects across the US, and we're particularly strong at facilitating multi-stakeholder discussions to ensure our solutions meet the needs of everyone involved. We used 2D modeling to find a safer and more practical solution for the North Douglas Creek project that provided the necessary energy dissipation, velocity reduction, and channel stabilization while lowering hazards for the community. #wearemerrick #urbansurfacewater
