We are dedicated to integrated, environmentally responsive architecture.
About us
COOKFOX Architects is a studio dedicated to a vision of integrated, environmentally responsive design. Guided by a passion for design excellence and a belief in the collaborative process, COOKFOX seeks select projects that fundamentally re-think how buildings interact with people and the natural environment. Starting with intensive research, we seek to understand each project in its environmental, cultural, and contemporary context, so that our work may engage with layers of time and a strong sense of place. Inspired by concepts such as biophilia, we are pursuing architecture that goes beyond LEED to restore, regenerate, and contribute to the urban environment.

This fall, Jinet Savul joined COOKFOX as a full-time intern, completing her Northeastern University fifth-year cooperative education (co-op) program at our studio. From August to December, she was an integral member of projects at various stages of development, and her contributions included LEED credit analyses, construction documentation, model-building for competitions, and photoshoot assistance. Gaining competence in both interior and exterior material specifications, she focused on kitchens, bathrooms, and doors, and she familiarized herself with their associated New York building codes. In the final weeks of her co-op internship, Jinet also received her LEED Green Associate certification. Thank you, congratulations, and see you soon, Jinet! We thoroughly enjoyed working with you these last few months.

This holiday season, COOKFOX sends you wishes as sweet as honey. We extend our biophilic practice of nurture and care to our studio culture. Changing with the seasons, our members participate in beekeeping and honey-harvesting on the LEED and WELL Platinum-certified terraces of our New York office. In 2025, we look forward to continuing our work at the intersection of the built and natural environment. Happy holidays!

Read more about Betances Residence, our project with Breaking Ground (NYC Permanent Supportive Housing), in Passive House Plus: https://lnkd.in/dpW4GtK4
Great to see the health and acoustic benefits of the #PassiveHouse standard championed in the latest Passive House Plus magazine, with the feature on the Betances Residence development by COOKFOX Architects in the Bronx. The development provides supported housing for vulnerable and homeless senior citizens. From Jared Gilbert of CookFox, as quoted in the piece: “‘I don't know if it's more noisy than other neighbourhoods, but we often think of quiet as kind of a luxury product in New York City,’ said Gilbert. ‘One of the benefits of passive house is that because you have to create an envelope that's so tightly sealed, you get really good acoustic performance.’ He added that while taking pictures of some of the residents, the woman sitting at the window said: ‘I love this building. It's so quiet in here.’” Aside from that, the design quality really stands out in the integration of universal design and the quality of the materials. #HealthyAgeing #architecture https://lnkd.in/emmaWSrr

What is awe? It is stimuli that defy an existing frame of reference and lead to a change in perception. Yesterday, COOKFOX and Terrapin Bright Green hosted a 10th anniversary event for "14 Patterns of Biophilic Design," featuring panelists Mirelle Phillips, Eric W. Sanderson, and Bethany Borel, and moderated by Molly Heintz. Bill Browning and Catie Ryan Balagtas also unveiled a 15th pattern: awe. The event was nothing short of awe-some.
