Bridge inspections are essential to maintain infrastructure and keep communities connected. As Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requirements evolve to align with the latest technology and regulations, inspectors must have the right tools and training to keep pace. As industry leaders, our teammates’ bridge inspection expertise spans routine to underwater to nonredundant steel tension members (NSTM). That’s why we have collaborated with FHWA since 2007 to develop key resources for inspectors. Most recently, our teammates authored the FHWA Underwater Bridge Inspection Manual, which is now published on the FHWA website. Our team members also lead training courses on advanced topics like underwater bridge inspections and NSTM inspections. By engaging active inspectors, these courses prepare participants to tackle real-world challenges through practical, relevant lessons deeply connected to industry needs. We are committed to working with the FHWA National Highway Institute and contributing to safer infrastructure nationwide by helping inspectors stay current and confident in their roles. #structuralassessment #bridgeinspection #commercialdiving

  • Last month, our team celebrated the ribbon cutting of the US-89 (300 South) project in Provo, Utah! Local officials, residents, and cyclists gathered to enjoy the improved safety and mobility of this urban corridor. 🎉 Providing construction engineering management, inspection, and materials testing, our teammates collaborated with the Utah Department of Transportation and Provo City to upgrade this 0.47-mile stretch of road. The project replaced aging water and sewer systems, upgraded storm drainage, introduced a new highway lighting system, paved the roadway, and added bicycle lanes. New traffic signals and bicycle/pedestrian crossing signals at 100 West and 300 West improve access for everyone. Working in a bustling urban setting meant navigating unexpected underground utilities and heavy traffic. The team found practical solutions that kept construction on track—even completing the project more than three months ahead of schedule! #consorprojects #constructionmanagement #multimodaltransportation #collaboration

  • This summer, Consor partnered with the County of Calaveras to enhance safety and accessibility near Valley Springs Elementary School, delivering impactful upgrades for the students and community. Over a 40-day construction period, the team: 🚧 Rebuilt failing roadways by expanding the dig-out limits and collaborating with the design team to refine pavement repair strategies for long-term durability. 🚶♀️ Installed new ADA ramps, sidewalks, and a standout red-stamped hot mix asphalt walkway that doubles as a safe, non-parking path and emergency evacuation zone. ⏳ Finished before students returned from fall break by using an alternative roadway section and mobilizing a large contractor crew. This project showcases the power of #collaboration, with our #constructionservices team, George Reed, Inc., and the Dokken Engineering team working together to overcome challenges and deliver this important safety project for the Valley Springs community. 👀 Watch this project come to life! #SchoolSafety #ADAImprovements #ConstructionManagement #ConsorProjects

  • The challenge: Yankee Jims Bridge has been a vital link since California’s gold rush days. But with a 3-ton load limit—less than most modern pickup trucks—it could no longer serve as a key emergency and recreation route. The solution: Build a new bridge parallel to the existing structure, preserving the historic suspension bridge while leveraging the benefits of CMGC delivery… 1️⃣ Reducing the environmental footprint. 2️⃣ Implementing innovative solutions and practical knowledge. 3️⃣ Increasing cost control and estimating accuracy. In the article below, Consor’s Western US Director of Structures Mark Reno explains how early contractor involvement and team collaboration helped tackle complex challenges like site access across the North Fork of the American River Canyon. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gQ6Ter7V 🔗 #bridgeengineering #CMGC #alternativedelivery #consorprojects

  • Spanning 400 feet above the South Fork of the American River, the Mosquito Road Bridge in El Dorado County, California, is an ambitious bridge engineering and construction feat. This 1,200-foot-long balanced cantilevered segmental structure will support both everyday traffic to the local Swansboro community and emergency response to the wildfire-prone region. Our team is the prime consultant for the bridge design, which must balance safety, access, and environmental stewardship within this steep, sensitive canyon ecosystem. California Builder & Engineer recently featured this project’s challenging construction process, which Shimmick Construction Company, Inc. is delivering. Improving connectivity and reducing congestion in West Pasco County, Florida, the Overpass Road Interchange makes life easier for travelers. The widened roadway and new I-75 access ramps alleviate traffic on SR 54 and SR 52, creating a more reliable route for everyday commutes. This project reflects the best of design-build delivery—it recently won the DBIA Florida Region Honor Award for Transportation – Structures! Working closely with the Florida Department of Transportation and The Middlesex Corporation (contractor), our team led the design for both the roadway and structures. Through collaboration, adaptability, and careful coordination, the project team delivered impactful solutions for the community. Key elements: 📐 Streamlined bridge design and a well-orchestrated construction strategy to reduce traffic impacts on I-75. ⚡ Precision in scheduling and delivery, from right-of-way acquisition to utility relocations, to keep the project on track. 🚧 Despite a tight 365-day closure for Overpass Road, the project team overcame all delays to reopen on time. #DBIA #designbuild #transportationengineering #consorprojects Project photos courtesy of Fred Ocasio at HNTB.
