Our team recently spoke with Antonio Marquez, Co-Founder and Chairman of MIC and Founder, Principal, and Managing Partner at Comunidad Partners—a people-serving business with the goal of driving impactful change at the resident and property level. In our interview, Antonio talks about the principle of addressing residents’ cultural diversity through property management and how this creates meaningful impact. He also highlights several best practices property managers can implement to cater to culturally diverse residents, celebrate their differences and uplift communities. One question we asked Antonio was, “What should property managers be careful to avoid when addressing cultural diversity?” Avoid a one-size-fits-all approach to cultural diversity. There is an industry term known as KYC which means know your customer. It’s a simple but foundational concept. Understanding the nuances of the culture of a multifamily community and creating an environment that welcomes residents and addresses needs translates into value creation and trust. We are thrilled to continue to expand our Comunidad team and enhance our ESG focus with the addition of Keaton Graham!    With a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering, from The University of Texas at Austin, Keaton is a skilled project manager and nonprofit expert. We are proud to have him on board as Director of ESG, where he will lead ESG strategy and implementation firm-wide, manage ESG reporting related to investor relations, oversee and implement the social impact program design, and so much more.     Keaton started his career as a Project Manager, specifically on the construction side, for a core program at Mobile Loaves & Fishes - Community First! Village - which is a 52-acre tiny home community for the chronically homeless. Over the next 10+ years, Keaton worked with different builders, volunteer groups, and companies to build homes for members in these communities. Additionally, he had the opportunity to build a development program, training members of the community and individuals experiencing homeless with job seeking skills, budgeting tips, and placing them in jobs throughout Austin     Prior to joining Comunidad, Keaton was the Program Manager for Procore Technologies, managing the company’s strategic nonprofit partnerships to help drive Procore’s vision of improving the lives of everyone in construction. At Comunidad, people are our purpose, and we strive to create a positive impact for the thousands of families in our communities.     One of the many ways we do this is by working closely with partners like Urban Roots, who offer their resources, time, and hearts.     Located in #Austin, TX, this nonprofit organization produces farm fresh organic fruits and vegetables and delivers them to local families and individuals in need. Comunidad recently partnered with Urban Roots to provide weekly bags of produce to 22 families in our Austin communities. The turnout was fantastic, and our residents could not have been more excited to receive their produce each week.     Our team got to experience the excitement during one of Urban Roots’ last distributions to one of the Comunidad communities.
