Community Missions was honored to receive a monetary donation from young author, Nakia Johnson. Nakia is an 8-year-old resident of Niagara Falls who loves to help others. One of her dreams is to help the homeless population. Nakia graciously donated a portion of her book sales to Community Missions. She even signed a copy of her book, “Make Your Dreams Come True” for us! Nakia was given a tour of the building and learned about all the different ways that we help the community. Our Tidings of Joy campaign, benefiting the children in our Youth Division, is underway! Our holiday trees, decorated with specific gift ideas or suggestions, are displayed at libraries in Lockport, Sanborn, North Tonawanda and Lewiston. We invite you to help youth who often cannot return home for the holidays. On our trees, you will find ideas for clothing, hygiene items, leisure activities, toys, games, and so much more to help make the holiday spirit a little brighter. Any gift would be accepted and know that no gift is ever too small. Our building was abuzz with volunteers yesterday! Leadership Niagara's LYNC division decorated our building for the holidays, organized in the Clothing Closet, helped out in our Food Pantry & Community Kitchen. We received a delicious donation from Lewiston Porter's Crew Committee students! 200 bagged lunches with supportive messages & decorations were created & delivered for our Niagara neighbors to enjoy! Made with love! We happily accepted over 190 homemade scarves from our local United Steelworkers "Women of Steel" group. Members Patricia, Susan, Gretchen, Charise & Sandy originally wanted to wrap the scarves on trees around our building. Unfortunately, the rain had just started. Our employees had the opportunity to deliver turkeys & Thanksgiving meal essentials out in the community. We heard from many about how thankful they were for Community Missions’ assistance this holiday season. Whether it was hosting, having a quiet dinner for one, or visiting family members, everyone has plans for their turkeys! We do our best to show Compassion in Action, especially during the holiday season. We are still in need of turkey, ham & holiday food donations for the rest of the holiday season, and also sponsors for our Holiday Help Program.
