Fighting poverty through housing and supportive services designed to empower individuals and families.

About us

Our name is Community & Home Supports, Inc. (CHS), and we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We’ve existed since 2008, and our focus is homeless services. Thank you for taking the time to visit our page! Our service model incorporates the concept of Housing First and includes comprehensive assessment, case management, financial assistance, wraparound services, data collection and analysis, and advocacy. We're part of the Detroit Continuum of Care (CoC) https://www.handetroit.org/continuum-of-care-2, which is a network of local nonprofit and government organizations that work collectively to address our community's homeless problem. Within this network, we play two primary roles, which are Coordinated Entry and Permanent Housing. Our Coordinated Entry program is a community partnership known as the Coordinated Assessment Model (CAM) https://camdetroit.org/get-help/. The CAM is the service entry point for people experiencing a housing crisis in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park. Our resource navigators engage with anyone reported to be living on the street or in shelter, perform a needs assessment, assist with acquiring vital documents and accessing requested services, and coordinate referrals to our CoC's permanent housing providers. Our Permanent Housing program currently houses homeless households in locations of their choice throughout Southeast Michigan. This program employs case managers that conduct initial assessment, develop an Individualized Person-Centered Plan of Service and follow up, assist with housing search and inspection for housing quality, negotiate with landlords, ensure ongoing financial assistance, and provide or connect to wraparound services based on the unique needs of the individual and their household members. For more information, please visit our website at https://chsinc.org/, or email us at info@chsinc.org.

  • Before the year 2024 ends, we wanted to send a Special Thanks to Foot Locker and its team! We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Foot Locker for providing the children of our participants with a stylish and memorable Christmas experience. Many of these children face the hardships of homelessness alongside their parents, attending school without proper clothing, shoes, warm socks, and other basic necessities. This holiday season, the Foot Locker team not only met those needs but went above and beyond. Your generosity provided these children with more than just essentials—you restored their confidence and gave them a reason to smile. Thank you, Kids Foot Locker for bringing hope and joy to the children we serve this Christmas. Your support has made a lasting impact on their lives and their futures. • We’re Giving Back: Wrapping Up 2024 with Joy and Care. This holiday season, we proudly partnered with Project Monday, Go Solutions (Denise Honorable), and El Bethel WIN Ministry to bring hope and warmth to those without a home, or family. Our Soup, Sandwiches, and Socks “pop-up” event was a heartwarming success! Together, we provided hot soup, sandwiches, essential resources, shelter to two, and comfort to over sixty men and women in need. And that was just a fraction of the many things that we do daily. However, this incredible impact wouldn’t have been possible without your support. With your continued partnership, we can achieve even more in the NEW YEAR! Let’s make 2025 a year of compassion, connection, and change. And, a special THANKS to Madonna University School of Social Work for supplying the wonderful much needed “Blessed Bags” hygiene kits, and Roger Walk for assisting the two with obtaining shelter. Thank you for being part of our mission. chsinc.org #communityengagement #partnership #endinghomelessness

  • At Community & Home Supports, Inc., we believe that serving a community goes beyond the work we do each day—it’s about giving back in meaningful ways that uplift others. This holiday season, we had the pleasure of partnering with our incredible interns to volunteer at Anderson’s Transitional Home for Girls during their Christmas Toy Drive. It was a humbling and heartwarming experience to witness the joy and gratitude on the faces of those we served. Moments like these remind us why our work matters and how even the smallest acts of kindness can have a lasting impact. Giving back strengthens the very community we are dedicated to supporting, fostering hope and connection where it’s needed most. We are grateful for opportunities like this to step outside of our daily routines, roll up our sleeves, and make a difference. A special thank you to Ms. Carolyn of Anderson's, and our interns for their dedication and compassion—it was truly a team effort to spread holiday cheer. #CHS #Makeadifference #Endhomelessness #volunteer #joinourfight
