About us

Various methods of brushing techniques for straight bristle toothbrushes have been developed through the years by skillful, dedicated practitioners. A very skillful, dedicated patient can follow these methods and indeed achieve dental health. However, from his 66 years of experience in dentistry, Dr. George C. Collis reveals that this type of patient is rare. To him, the problem did not lie in the teaching or the motivation of the patient, but rather in their ability to follow such a demanding manual technique. In 1972, after twenty years of observation, he realized that it was not the technique that was at fault, it was the instrument. A simple modification in the toothbrush bristles, and the technique to brushing teeth was instantly simplified. By curving the bristles, the average person can now do what they were hardly ever able to do before: CLEAN THE SULCUS. Dr. Collis believes that if you haven't cleaned the sulcus, you haven't really cleaned your teeth. With the Collis Curve, you can use almost any technique and still be highly effective at removing plaque. Sulcular brushing requires a minimal technique consisting of applying a twisting downward pressure with the wrist. The Collis Curve Toothbrush can be scrubbed, vibrated, twisted, moved horizontally or vertically, rocked, or even chewed on and it will do the job. Blind patients can master the technique just as easily as sighted people because it is largely a tactile technique. Patients with severe handicaps involving manual dexterity can even clean the sulcus simply by chewing on the top of the brush. Totally disabled patients can be attended to by simply brushing for them. In 20 seconds, a very acceptable job can be done with very little discomfort.
