Today is a big day. 6 years, 11 months, and 17 days ago the deadline to implement NIST SP 800-171 requirements pursuant to DFARS clause 252.204-7012 came and went. As of today the 32 CFR regulation establishing the CMMC program to verify that defense contractors have actually implemented those requirements in officially in effect. Contractors with qualifying Joint Surveillance Assessment results are officially CMMC L2 certified. In conjunction, the Cyber AB has officially released the final Assessment Process Guide. Voluntary CMMC assessments will start immediately after the New Year. A few months later, CMMC requirements will start showing up in DoD contract solicitations. Relying on self-attested compliance for 7 years was a complete failure. An assurance program like CMMC was always inevitable. Happy holidays.
