SUNDAY READ: Managing stormwater is going to be an increasingly difficult task in Wisconsin. Climate change is causing wetter conditions generally, and more frequent, intense storms. This is particularly true in urban areas where “impervious surfaces” like pavement, concrete and rooftops prevent stormwater from soaking into the ground. Science Program Director Paul Matthewson breaks down the importance of capturing the first half inch of all rainfall using green stormwater infrastructure in "Under the Lens: Modeling the challenge of stormwater management in Milwaukee," featured in the latest issue of The Defender. CUTTING DOWN CARBON EMISSIONS: Wisconsin's cold weather means our roads need repairs year after year, and that construction usually means using building materials that can harm our climate. That's why the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is taking advantage of $32 million in funds from the Inflation Reduction Act to create a program that will look for ways to reduce carbon emissions from transportation improvement projects! The project will focus on promoting materials that produce fewer greenhouse gases and are more sustainable in the long run. #Funds4WI #FederalFundingFriday #ActOnClimate #FFF #CleanWisconsin

This holiday season we've got clean and affordable energy on our wishlist! Unfortunately, utilities like Alliant Energy and We Energies are planning to continue using fossil fuels like methane gas for decades to come. Clean energies like wind and solar are cheaper, safer for our environment and better for public health than dirty fossil fuels. Don't let utilities gaslight you!
