Today, the City of Roswell celebrated the completion of its newest river park! Mayor Kurt Wilson and members of the City Council joined staff and community members to cut the ribbon on the "Ace Sand - Phase I" project. This is the first project of the River Parks Master Plan, a comprehensive blueprint to transform the City’s riverfront property into a unified first-class river park system. This new park area is located just to the west of Don White Memorial Park (with parking at 925-B Riverside Road) and features: --New multi-use trails that enhance access and connectivity all throughout the park. --The fitness loop trail provides serene, shaded space for visitors to enjoy the river views, as well as access to several fitness pods along the paved pathway. --Smaller trails connect through the park’s central grove of trees to the enchanting Adventure Path, which offers a unique woodland experience for visitors of all ages. --Thousands of new native plantings beautify the park, as well as playing an important role in stormwater management and riverbank stabilization. --Creative and innovative landscape features—like the cascading rock gardens near the sand volleyball courts—are actually bioswales, which capture water and allow it to drain into the ground, thereby minimizing flooding and erosion. The transformation of Roswell’s riverscape will continue with the "Ace Sand – Phase II" project. Currently in design phase, the project will feature a unique Children’s Stormwater Garden, which simultaneously helps to control runoff while providing a hands-on learn-and-play experience for children of multiple age groups and abilities. Other upcoming projects that will transform Roswell’s popular river corridor include enhancements to Don White Memorial Park and Riverside Park, as well as safety and operational improvements to Riverside Road. The total cost for the Ace Sand – Phase I project is approximately $2.2 million, which was funded by the City of Roswell and federal ARPA funds.
