  • Meet Sgt. Sergio Pires and his loyal partner, Basco! Sgt. Pires, a dedicated police sergeant and canine handler with the Morgan Hill Police Department, works alongside Basco, a 10-year-old canine born in the Czech Republic. Together, they’ve served our community for nearly a decade, assisting with calls, making traffic stops, and ensuring officer safety by clearing buildings before entry. At home, Sgt. Pires is a proud husband and father of three, balancing his kids’ sports activities, home DIYs, and even working on his own project truck. Basco, on the other hand, loves lounging with his blanket and teddy bear, and despite being “the boss” at work, he’s hilariously outmatched by the family’s rescue dog and two other pups. As Basco gears up for retirement at the end of this shift, he’ll trade his police duties for poolside naps and watermelon drinks. If you see Sgt. Pires and Basco around town, don’t hesitate to say hi—they love connecting with the Morgan Hill community they’ve served so faithfully.
