  • On Oct. 6, a life-or-death moment at the Kettering Recreation Complex became a testament to extraordinary care and quick thinking. When a 35-year-old resident collapsed during exercise, citizen Dr. Jordan Hickey and PRCA staff member Sarah O'Malley sprang into action. Recognizing the patient wasn't breathing, they immediately began CPR and used an AED, delivering two life-saving defibrillations. When the Kettering Fire Department arrived, they continued advanced life support. Tonight, we honored these heroes: Citizenship Award: Sarah O'Malley (PRCA) Dr. Jordan Hickey, MD KFD Life Saving Award: Capt. Eric Hagemeyer Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Caudill Firefighter/Paramedic Ryan Hill Firefighter/Paramedic Austen Mellendorf Firefighter/Paramedic Trent Phipps We're proud to report that the patient made a full recovery. Upon delivering a heartfelt speech at the Council Meeting, there was not a dry eye was in the room. This is Kettering—where community means everything.

  • We are pleased to welcome Kettering’s next Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts (PRCA) Director, Bill Tschirhart! Bill returned to the City today and succeeds Mary Beth O'Dell, who concluded her distinguished 23-year tenure as PRCA Director in June.   Bill has worked for nearly a decade for Five Rivers MetroParks, most recently serving as Chief of Administration. With over 26 years of experience, Tschirhart brings a proven track record of innovative leadership and team development to Kettering. His collaborative approach and commitment to creating public value align perfectly with the City of Kettering's vision for the future. He is a recognized leader in the industry, teaching other parks and recreation professionals through various state and national conferences including the National Recreation and Parks Association’s Revenue Development and Management School.   Before serving Five Rivers MetroParks, Bill served the City of Kettering PRCA for 16 years, including 10 of which as a Business Service Manager. He and his wife, Amy (a teacher in the Kettering school district), live in Kettering, where their children attend(ed) Kettering Schools. Tschirhart regularly gives back to the community through his involvement in committees, volunteerism, and his active position on the Kettering Board of Community Relations.     Bill holds a master's degree in public administration from the University of Dayton and a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He is a current Kettering Board of Community Relations member and a past member of the University of Dayton's Masters in Public Administration Advisory Board. Welcome home, Bill!
