The City of Culver City launched a new, publicly accessible residential development dashboard, providing residents and stakeholders with an up-to-date, transparent view of housing projects currently under development review. This online report, which will be updated monthly, details key information on each project, including its type, status, and the number of units, with a breakdown of affordable versus market-rate housing units. As of November 2024, the pipeline includes 26 active residential projects across the City, totaling 4,160 units, of which 538 are designated as affordable housing. This exceeds the City’s total Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA) obligation, which requires planning for 3,341 new housing units by 2029. The new reporting underscores Culver City's ongoing commitment to addressing the growing demand for housing while ensuring equitable access to affordable living options. The launch of the dashboard follows the recent approval by the City Council of a new General Plan and Zoning Code, designed to streamline the development process and support the city’s growth. These updates are part of Culver City's continued effort to create a balanced mix of housing opportunities to meet the needs of its diverse population. “We are committed to fostering a transparent and efficient process for housing development in Culver City,” said Mark Muenzer, Planning and Development Director. “The updates to the General Plan and Zoning Code have helped facilitate the housing development necessary to accommodate our growing population. We want the public to have easy access to information on these projects, which represent our efforts to help create both affordable and market-rate housing.” The new dashboard is now available to the public and can be accessed via the City’s official website. Congratulations to our new Mayor, Vice Mayor, and newly elected City Council Members. Dan O'Brien will lead the Culver City City Council in 2025 after being unanimously selected for the position by fellow City Council Members on Monday. City Council Members also voted unanimously for Freddy Puza to serve as Vice Mayor. Albert Vera Jr. and Yasmine-Imani McMorrin were sworn-in for their second term after being re-elected in November. Bryan "Bubba" Fish was also sworn-in, having been elected by residents during the November election. After eight years of service on the City Council, Council Member Göran Eriksson ended his term on Monday due to term limits. He reflected on the work he helped accomplish during his time on the City Council, including addressing the homelessness crisis, organizing the Feed Culver initiative during the pandemic, beginning to run City buses on biogas, approving the Culver Steps and Ivy Station developments, and completing a citywide municipal fiber network. The first City Council meeting in 2025 is set for January 13th at the Culver City Senior Center. The Mike Balkman Council Chambers will be undergoing renovations to its technology systems.

We are proud to announce the Farragut Connector Replacement Project in Culver City is now complete. The Project, which was improving a section of pathway that provides bicyclists and pedestrians access along Farragut Drive between Jasmine Avenue and Jackson Avenue, began in Spring 2024 by the Public Works Division of the City of Culver City. It included demolition of the existing path and construction of new fencing, pedestrian-oriented lighting, plants and trees with an irrigation system, a combined bottle filler/pet drinking fountain, and permeable pavement. “This is more than a beautification project as it is an important effort to enhance the neighborhood and all who use the section to traverse through the area,” said Mayor Yasmine-Imani McMorrin. “I appreciate our staff’s focus on improving this path by bringing voices of all who use it and creating something we can be proud of as a community.” The project had a number of objectives, including: - Widen the path, using the entire width of the City’s 25’ parcel of land (instead of just 10’ as it did before), to provide additional room to traverse the path more safely - Improve the appearance of the path, including ensuring that new plants and trees are irrigated to maintain their health - Enhance safety at the Jasmine side of the path by directing users to “stay right” and strategically placing mirrors and pavement markings to guide them - Install illuminated bollards to light up the path at night for safety but minimize spill over into the windows of the adjacent homes - Community feedback showed the preferences of a linear path design, a focus on landscape, privacy, and safety, as well as minimizing dwell time, so it is utilized as travel path “The Public Works Department strives to make our residential neighborhoods safer and more walkable,” said Demitri, Public Works Director. “This great project is one such example. The project was also completed under budget and was well-received by everyone in the area." The Project also has a public art component. City Council commissioned artist Sonia Romero to create a tiled art installation on the north facing wall with a focus on the area’s history. The artwork is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2025.
