Oswaldo Mestre Jr. "Oz" Hope Young-Watkins Honored to speak in front of over 700 police officers from all 50 states, highlighting our city's commitment to community engagement. 🚔 It was an incredible opportunity to discuss Effective Community Policing and highlight innovative ways to foster connections between law enforcement and minority communities. BURA commends the hard work of Project Manager Lindsay Frazier who led the City of Buffalo’s Stand-Up Buffalo Eviction Prevention program. The program, which provided emergency assistance to renters impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, has assisted 1,034 households in crisis. Overall, Stand-Up Buffalo provided $3.5 Million in rental assistance. Project Completion Alert! We are excited to celebrate the completion of the McCarley Gardens rehabilitation project! BURA contributed $1 Million in HOME funds for this project. The project featured the rehabilitation of existing townhomes and the construction of four new buildings. Updates include things like updated kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, and paint.

This team was selected for alignment with the CTRC’s vision, plan and program; financial capacity and feasibility; diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and strategies; and team structure, as well as experience and capabilities.  “The selected development group brings a combined wealth of experience and a proven track record of revitalizing historic landmarks,” said Empire State Development President, CEO & Commissioner Hope Knight. “After a very thorough national search that brought in a number of quality responses, we are confident that CB Emmanuel, The Alexander Company, and Rise Community Capital will usher in a new era for the Central Terminal and turn this iconic structure into a catalytic anchor for the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood and East Buffalo and a generational investment in the City of Buffalo.” (https://buff.ly/3uqYoaR) Plans for long-term development focus on creating new economic activity, bringing in local, accessible jobs, providing local businesses, entrepreneurs, and non-profits with a platform to collaborate and grow, and building housing to retain local residents while also attracting new ones to the neighborhood.
