Cincinnati Children's is establishing a blueprint of how drug discovery can be done at an academic medical center. Developed from research led by Daniel Starczynowski, PhD, the KME-0584, a small molecule drug aims to treat refractory/relapsed AML and high-risk MDS, both of which have limited treatment options. This is one of the few therapeutics developed at Cincinnati Children's from initial concept through the now open IND filing. Special thanks to our collaborators at Kurome Therapeutics, Inc., CincyTech, National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), and the dedicated researchers at Cincinnati Children's who made this possible. Together, we're bringing hope to thousands of patients with limited cancer treatment options. ICYMI: We launched CardioFlux to the Cincinnati community right before the holidays, and have been so encouraged by the response and early successes that the program has yielded. My own recent experiences: August 2024: My CardioFlux score (peak marathon conditioning) represents my trained baseline. I arrived at this with an optimal training load (i.e. 4 days of Zone 2 and 1-2 V02 max workouts per week), optimal sleep (averaged 7 hrs 32 mins in the preceding 90 days) and decent nutrition (although definitely an area of improvement for future training cycles) November 2024: Less than 70 days after the marathon, combined with illness, complete detraining and a tremendous amount of work travel, I was unsurprised to re-test on CardioFlux and see a 10 point decrease, well outside of the bounds of my day to day score variability (i.e. a real loss of cardiac fitness). This can also be seen on the trendlines image that shows almost all of my heart health parameters deteriorating during this detraining window. December 2024: I'm back on the grind again, and my goal is to boost my baseline past 75 and into the 80s. Early evidence of this possibility appears...promising.
