About us

Children’s Hospital is a 263-bed, not-for-profit pediatric medical center offering a complete range of healthcare services for children from birth to 21 years. With over 40 pediatric specialties and more than 600 pediatric providers, it is the only full-service hospital exclusively for children in Louisiana and the Gulf South. Children's Hospital recorded 200,834 patient visits in 2012, with children coming to us from all 64 parishes in Louisiana, 37 states and 6 foreign countries. In all, 60,557 children received care from our hospital last year. Critical care is provided in the hospital's 36-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), 24-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and 20-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). The hospital's Jack M. Weiss Emergency Care Center, one of the area's busiest emergency rooms, is staffed around the clock by board-certified pediatricians, with the availability of a full range of pediatric specialists. The Emergency Department has a total of 37 exam rooms and is supported by a nursing staff specially trained to handle pediatric emergencies. Outpatient appointments with pediatric specialists are offered Monday through Friday at the Ambulatory Care Center on the hospital campus and at the hospital's satellite locations: The Metairie Center, Children's Hospital Outpatient Center of Baton Rouge and Children's Hospital Burdin Riehl Clinic in Lafayette, Louisiana. Children's Hospital is the founding member of LCMC Health, a community-minded nonprofit, supporting Louisiana’s best local healthcare with the people, processes, funding and expertise needed to strengthen the unique integrity of our community hospitals. • As our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the individuals and families impacted by this morning’s tragic event in New Orleans, Children’s Hospital is here to support caregivers who may be looking for guidance in how to best discuss this devastating event with their children. Similar to adults, children and adolescents are likely to experience a range of emotions after hearing about this potentially traumatizing situation. Click the links below for tips for caregivers and parents on how to talk to youth in the aftermath of a mass casualty incident and help decrease their distress, and for additional resources from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. https://lnkd.in/g3jAAAhn https://lnkd.in/g6qZ7qsW

  • We have had such a (snow)ball Lighting Up The Season this year, from lighting up our campus to Santa visiting our patients and every special moment in-between! ❄️ We enjoyed a milk and cookies party with Chick-fil-A New Orleans, Christmas caroling with the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court and Trinity second graders, a special visit from the Tulane Men’s Basketball Team and the Miracle Children’s Foundation, our 3rd annual Holiday Parade, book readings with local artist Becky Fos and the Henry Aucoin Foundation, and so much more! Thanks to the support of our community and all our extraordinary visitors, we have been able to bring the spirit of the season to CHNOLA for children like Ryder. Ryder spent 145 days in our NICU 11 years ago, and still returns every year to celebrate his journey with his second family – the Children’s NICU Team. Every day, every season – Children’s cares for kids who need us most, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Ring in the New Year by giving the gift of tomorrow for kids like Ryder. Make your gift before midnight at chnola.org/lights to have your 2024 donation eligible for this year's tax benefits and leave a message of hope for children that are being cared for right now. Thank you for your support of our vital mission to deliver expert care for every child across Louisiana and beyond! #NewYears #NewYearsResolutions #NewYear2025 #newyearnewme #givingseason #childrenshospital

  • 2024 was a banner year here at Children’s Hospital New Orleans, and we are so happy you were on the journey with us! This year, we became one of only a handful of children's hospitals nationally to offer both FDA-approved gene therapies approved for treatment of severe forms of sickle cell disease, and we performed 27 stem cell transplants (the most ever in our history!). Thanks to a continuous focus on process improvement, staffing and workflow efficiencies across our perioperative division, together we performed more surgeries than ever before, including three liver and 11 kidney transplants. We expanded our reach and access to serve even more families, including the opening of our new Northshore Outpatient Therapy Clinic, beginning pediatric surgical services at Lakeview Hospital, and our expanded Metairie Pediatrics and Metairie Academic clinics! Together, we also made huge strides outside the four walls of the hospital. From continuing our gun safety work to our second annual Back to School Boogaloo, and expansion of ThriveKids, our community programs are essential to meeting the health needs of our most vulnerable kids and families. One of the highlights for our community programs this year was the opening of our new Morgan Rae Center for Hope on October 11, thanks to a transformational gift from Jessica Brandt. This new home for our child abuse pediatrics programs has enabled our team to serve even more child victims of abuse and human trafficking. There is so much to be proud of this year, and we couldn't celebrate the lifesaving and lifechanging impact we are making together for kids and families across Louisiana, the Gulf South, and far beyond, without YOU! Together, we cared for more than 500,000 children in 2024. In 2025 we are celebrating Children's Hospital's 70th birthday – and in many ways, we are just getting started. The opportunities to impact child wellbeing across our region together are limitless, and the future for kids is bright! Wishing you all a very healthy and happy New Year from Children's Hospital! #newyear2025 #happynewyear #2024recap #yearinreview
