About us
Chapin Hall has, since its inception in 1985 as a research and policy center, focused on a mission of improving the well-being of children and youth, families, and their communities. We do this through policy research—by developing and testing new ideas, generating and analyzing information, and examining policies, programs, and practices across a wide range of service systems and organizations. Chapin Hall takes a broad perspective, embracing an interest in policies that promote the well-being of all children and youth while devoting special attention to those facing significant problems.

Chapin Hall found San Francisco’s Bringing Families Home Program is successfully engaging #ChildWelfare system involved families experiencing homelessness. •Caregiver wellbeing improved •Nearly two-thirds of families with a closed #Reunification case reunified with their children and few of their children have re-entered care •Most families exiting the program are stably housed and remain that way Re-watch Chapin Hall's webinar on this program to explore all findings and learn how we can better help families exit homelessness: https://lnkd.in/gar3GcGd

How does the rising minimum wage impact the ECE workforce? As of January 1st, minimum-wage workers in 21 states across the country will see wage increases in their paychecks as new laws come into effect. Center for Early Learning Funding Equity worked with Chapin Hall to develop a brief that explored what impact wage increases had on lower wage-earners and higher-earning workers. Check out the brief here: https://lnkd.in/gecKWUHy.

As 2024 comes to a close, Chapin Hall is grateful for the progress we've made thanks to our supporters. Thank you for giving and shaping a future where all families can thrive. But there's more good work to do together this coming year. Help us kick off 2025 with the resources we need to shape systems that don't just respond to crises but create environments where children and families can reach their full potential. We appreciate you! To give: https://lnkd.in/g7dNVG9s #MakeADifference

Current solutions for #YouthHomelessness often fall short, leaving young adults without support and a safe, stable place to live. The Cash Plus Model offers a new approach: unconditional cash transfers combined with youth-driven supportive services (“plus”) like #Housing navigation and financial coaching. Chapin Hall is evaluating this model in #NYC to build an evidence base for effective solutions. Explore our new resource, the NYC Pathways Study and Trust Youth Initiative Overview, at the bottom of this page to learn how the evaluation is set up: https://lnkd.in/g7DrWwNn

These past five years, Policy Fellow Shaun Lane has been a steadfast leader. His calm presence, subject-matter expertise, and nurturing style have been essential to his considerable success at Chapin Hall. Under his leadership, we have sustained and grown our partnership with Kinnect in Ohio — beginning with kinship navigation model design and implementation with OhioKAN, expanding to a navigation model for youth transitioning to adulthood, and now stepping into legal representation for kin caregivers. Shaun has been a highly sought-after national expert, a model organization citizen, and valued member of the Promotions Committee. He is thoughtful, willing to talk colleagues through challenges, and we especially admire how he invites different points of view. Happy anniversary, Shaun, and thank you!
