About us
Since 1976, Centurions Leadership Program has earned its reputation as an unequaled training ground for future Kansas City leaders. Today, the two-year program has more than 80 active Centurions who join more than 2,000 alumni. We are a close-knit group of women and men from diverse backgrounds, expanding our personal and professional networks within the group and throughout the community we serve. The Centurions Leadership Program of The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce spends two years exploring the opportunities and issues of the Kansas City metropolitan area. MISSION To prepare a representative cross-section of the community's emerging leaders for their role in shaping the future of greater Kansas City. IMPLEMENTATION The Centurions' mission is achieved by: *Acquainting members with current community issues; *Providing a framework for meeting other outstanding current and future community leaders; *Promoting greater awareness of community resources; *Exploring diversified segments of our city; and *Offering avenues to become more civically involved through Centurions' projects or other civic opportunities presented to Centurions members.

🎓 Before the holiday break, the Apex cohort dived into an enlightening December Task Force: Cradle to Diploma. This impactful day explored the history and current state of education in Kansas City and how we can foster meaningful change. Highlights from the day: ✨We began with exploring The Regnier Family Wonderscope Children's Museum of Kansas City, followed by an insightful presentation on the History of Kansas City Education by Derald Davis, Ed.D., Deputy Superintendent and Chief Equity Officer, Kansas City Public Schools. 👶Early childhood education experts Paula Neth, Toni Denese Sturdivant, Ph.D., Kristin Droege, Ashley Copple, and Julia Holland shared their perspectives on the importance of early childhood education and preschool initiatives. 🚍At the Hickman Mills C-1 School District Real World Learning Center, we engaged in a roundtable discussion with leaders Dr. Bob Jerome, Robin E. Henderson, Ph.D., Leslie Kohlmeyer, Cristy Moreno, and Dean Johnson about the pressing challenges and opportunities in K-12 education. 🏫School Systems Spotlight: Representatives from Académie Lafayette, Shawnee Mission School District, and Pembroke Hill School highlighted their unique approaches and shared common goals. 🎓College & Career Readiness: A dynamic session featured Shannon Shelton, Susan Wally, Tatia Shelton, and Davlon Miller MEd, NCC emphasized preparing students for the future through pathways to success. Takeaways: How we can all support education: 📖Read: Dedicate five minutes a day to reading with a child. 📢Advocate: Write to state and local representatives about the importance of quality education. 🤝Support: Partner with an educational non-profit or school—ask how you can make an impact. A huge thanks to all our incredible speakers and the Task Force Committee for creating such a meaningful experience.
