About us
Center on Halsted is the Midwest's most comprehensive community center dedicated to advancing community and securing the health and well-being of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community. More than 1,000 community members visit the Center every day, located in the heart of Chicago's Lakeview Neighborhood. We work hard to provide a safe and welcoming environment with programs and services for the entire community. Our programs range from volleyball, dance performances and cooking classes to rapid HIV testing, group therapy and vocational training. In addition, we partner regularly with other organizations and groups from across Chicago and the nation to provide additional programming for the community. Free wi-fi access is available throughout the building including our lobby, reading library and our rooftop terrace. We also offer meeting and reception space, with special discounts for non-profit community groups. MISSION Center on Halsted advances community and secures the health and well-being of the LGBTQ people of Chicagoland. VISION A thriving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community, living powerfully in supportive inclusive environments.

On Wednesday, January 15 we're hosting a Resource Fair with Howard Brown Health, Chicago Department of Public Health, and Rush University Medical Center! Stop by to get your vaccinations, receive HIV/STI testing, access benefit navigation, and register for a Chicago CityKey Card. A CityKey Card is a government-issued, multi-purpose ID available to all Chicago residents, regardless of age, immigration status, or housing situation. Registration opens the first week of January.

Save the date for our Trans Youth & Family Action Summit! 💙💗🤍💗💙 We're coming together March 8 from 9am-2pm to offer a safe and welcoming space for trans youth and their families to engage in workshops, discussions, and skill-building sessions. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with community leaders, learn from lived experiences, and gain practical tools for advocacy and change—as well as plenty of opportunities to celebrate trans joy! We're looking for volunteers to help distribute our online market at Center on Cottage Grove every month! On the third Wednesday of every month, we host an online market at Center on Cottage Grove where households can pick up pantry essentials for free. We need passionate folks like you to aid in the distribution of items to our community members. Some heavy lifting and exposure to the elements are required.
