Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending CenterForce USA’s Intellectual Property Strategy Summit. It was such a great day of learning and connecting with industry leaders! It was great hearing our President, Michael Connelly, share his expertise on Defensive Litigation and Risk Management. Another highlight was the panel on AI and Your Patent Management, Strategy & Portfolio—Hanna Madbak from Adeia shared some fantastic insights. Events like these are such a great opportunity to learn, gain fresh perspectives, and connect with some of the brightest minds in the field. Can’t wait for the next one!

A big thank you to the folks at CenterForce USA for hosting us yesterday at the IP Strategy Summit in NYC. To be honest, my original thought was having lots of conversations around copyright infringement and how Copyleaks can assist with that. But I was wrong..... So very delightfully wrong. Surprisingly, despite all the news waves about GenAi, it still took center stage around most of the discussions taken place in quite a gathering of the brightest legal minds. One of the biggest takeaways here is even legal experts are entering uncharted territory when it comes to understanding the full breadth of legal risks and consequences with Ai. With no real hard regulation or actual court precedent set, it makes sense why theres still lots of unknowns around how to effectively leverage GenAi internally, while also considering external risk as well. I'm no legal expert by any means, but something that holds true for anything is trying to understand the extent of what you're dealing with before taking any action.... and this couldn't be more true with Ai, even at its nascency today. Going to be a very interesting 2025 and buckle up, we're in for a ride.

Another great event by CenterForce USA! WIT was a proud sponsor of this year's IP Strategy Summit which brought together leading minds in intellectual property law. WIT President Michael Connelly spoke on the "Defensive Litigation and Risk Management" panel alongside Lloyd Smith, Joshua Sibble, and Andrew Wojnicki. They discussed how political changes will likely shift litigation trends and the importance of maintaining strong licensing programs to navigate potential litigation risks. The WIT team (Ingrid Firmin, Michael Crowe, and Jeffrey Dorfman) was happy to attend the event.

A big thank you to CenterForce USA and all the extraordinary panelists who presented on IP Strategy yesterday in Seattle. It was an honor to discuss "Blind Spots: The Importance of Diversity in Innovation." My talk was a tribute to Anna Connelly, one of the first female patentees in the U.S. and an unsung hero who saved many, many thousands of lives. Anna’s fire escape invention (patented in 1887) greatly increased the chances of surviving a building fire. So much so, the building codes in NYC were updated to require a fire escape on every building. (See Anna's patent below in the comments.)
Emily Peyser shares a meaningful discussion with our IP Strategy Summit: Seattle on "The Importance of Diversity in Innovation."
