  • Community Progress is excited to announce the second round of our technical assistance scholarship for code enforcement! Strategic code compliance is more effective and efficient and supports community resilience, housing security, safety, and racial justice. But many local governments feel “stuck” in their traditional approach to code enforcement, despite the limited success of these practices. That’s why Community Progress is offering free technical assistance to select communities that are committed to trying a more strategic code enforcement approach to address vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated properties. Applicants should be willing to explore and implement innovative code compliance policies and practices in service of equitable outcomes for residents. Applications open today and are due on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 5:00 PM EST. • We’re proud to share this video from our President & CEO, Kat Guillaume-Delemar, delivering her powerful opening remarks at the Reclaiming Vacant Properties Conference (RVP) in St. Louis last month! Her words set the tone for impactful conversations about equity, innovation, revitalization, and the real impact the work has on the communities we serve.

It’s taken me a month to fully put into words how much of a lasting impact this year’s Reclaiming Vacant Properties Conference (RVP) hosted by Center for Community Progress in St. Louis, MO has had on me. Having been part of the Community Progress family for going on five years, never would I have imagined that I would be the current #PresidentandCEO, and that I would be “GOING DEEP” with my remarks in front of 1,000 changemakers. The hugs, the accolades, the media coverage, the momentum… all pale in comparison to being in the presence of so many people who dare to address systemic vacancy by seeing the beauty in transforming neighborhoods and lives.   Followed by the most endearing welcome by thee best Board Chair, (the one and only Don Phoenix), I shared my opening remarks not knowing how it would resonate with the masses that I lead from a place of trauma not ego, but here we are… a little over 30 days later, and people are still asking for a recording of my words. “MY” words… wow.   I thank you. So, as requested, here is a quick snapshot of my remarks, and as you listen, I hope the theme of “purpose, not titles” resonates as it pertains to the #peoplecentered #humancentered work I, and so many others, are called to do. #WhenBlackWomenLead#HaitianAmerican #HowardUniversityMade #HowardUniversity #ChangeAgent #PublicServant

  • Big news for Detroit housing! The Detroit City Council has approved two critical ordinances aimed at improving housing access and quality across the city. The revised rental ordinances will hold landlords accountable and ensure safer living conditions for residents, with increased fines and stricter compliance for blight violations and lead safety. The Center for Community Progress is proud to have contributed to achieving these impactful changes through our report and work with the City. Let’s keep pushing forward for stronger communities and better housing! https://lnkd.in/gEBsYmYF https://lnkd.in/grw4yZFa https://lnkd.in/giayr8WU
